We are in a rural area and we have a PO box. Have had it for decades. It's an 8 mile round trip since moving to this house. We used to live a lot closer to town and if need be could walk (1 mi. round trip) to the PO.
We usually get mail on Saturdays although once in a blue moon I'll stop if I'm out and about.

I live in an apartment now, so have to walk probably almost 1/3 of a block-- then to get packages at the parcel room maybe half that distance----kind of a pain --at my house the mailbox was at the street.

I live in a townhouse community. Our cluster mailbox for my section ot homes is across the street. Mail is delivered there daily. Not a problem for me until recently.................. On my way back across the street I stopped to chat with a couple of young ladies who live next door. (There was work being done in a neighbor's yard near the mailboxes.). Apparently, the street was wet in the area where I was and my feet suddenly went out from under me. Did a flat out face plant!!!!!!!!!!! Fortunately, my neighbors helped me with my injuries, mostly confined to my face, stopping the bleeding and helping with some bandaids! Lucky for me, I seem to be a fast healer, although I still have some bruise marks where the lower rims of my eyeglasses hit. Believe it or not....my glasses did not break!!!!!!! Just a minor bend of the nose piece.
Anyway, back to the original question.....my mailbox is across the street!![]()

My mailbox is right outside my front door.

My driveway is approximately 5-6 car lengths from garage door to main 2 lane road. Mailbox is mounted on the right side.
At least 3x a week our rural carrier brings the mail to the front porch because of boxes of meds/supplies for my husband or an order for one of my girls.

When I look at all the individual mailboxes up a long driveway from the house, I wonder if those were created years ago.
Now, we always hear about mail being stolen and it is, in good and not so good neighborhoods.
I haven't seen newer houses being built but wonder if the same old mailbox designs will be put in them too or if it will take years to change.
Apartments on the other hand of course have keys to each person's mailbox.

Yes, we get Home Delivery and our Mailbox is at the end of our driveway, and the mailman comes in his truck and drops it off....
In our last house we lived in a community where all the mailboxes were across the street and down the road a bit...
Where we live now, its much more convenient!
@house_cat- Wow...2 blocks for mail!!! Thats a lot.I guess good exercise, until like you said you get too old! lol!

@ID2 wrote:Complaining that you have to WALK to your mailbox? Seriously? Getting out in the fresh air and having a walk is good for you! Please just change your mindset and think of this as a positive thing. Start walking for exercise and you won't have to worry about how you'll get your mail in the future.
Well, bless your heart, I suspect you've never been injured or disabled. My DH is disabled and cannot possibly walk two blocks down and back up a hill. On a couple of occasions he has driven the car to the mailboxes, but it's an awkward spot and bothersome to the neighbors who live there.
I'm still able bodied and enjoy the walk, even though there are weather days when I choose to wait.
I asked the question because I was wondering if the PO is cutting back on house to house deliveries. Apparently that is the case since it looks like only the older homes and neighborhoods still receive it.
Thank you for that information. I'm going to look into it further so that I'll know what to do if the situation arises.

Just a few steps outside my front door.

Does anyone get home delivery from USPS anymore?
How far away is your mailbox from your house?
Same here! We live in a 55+ community, which has one central mailbox down the street. Luckily if we have packages they either go in a parcel locker, or the mailman brings them to the door if we're lucky.
