How early is too early for a "worker" to show up for an apppointment at your house?

We had a painter scheduled earlier this week to arrive at a certain time based on our morning schedule and getting people out and cars out of the garage/driveway. Etc,etc.

He shows up almost 40 mins early and is a bit put off that he could not park in the driveway and that we were not able to drop everything for him.   When he realized his option was he could leave because I was more annoyed than he was he changed his tune.

How early is too early for you when you schedule an appt?

I had one who showed up Sunday morning at 8:00.  He said he was doing me a favor.  What if I was going to church?  He was suppose to come on Monday to finish my cabinet installation.  I just let it go because I wanted it done and him out of my house.  I live where most contractors and plumbers are flakes who don't know how to get here on time or return a phone call.

At least the worker showed up. We have had some never show up-like a painter!

I would consider yourself lucky that he actually showed up and was early to boot!  I can't tell you how many contractors I've tried to schedule who either don't return the call, don't show up or are late.  At least he was there and was willing to work.

I understand your annoyance. Where I live it is nearly impossible to get someone to come and do repairs, painting and other work so I would have been ecstatic that he showed up.

I wouldn't want a worker at my house to work inside any earlier than 8:00.  If they were going to be working outside on say roofing, I'd say 7:00 to beat the heat.

But trust me when I tell you, you are lucky he showed up.  We've been trying to have work done on our bathroom since January!!!  It has been one disaster after the other.  Appointments were made for contractors to give us estimates and several never even showed up nor did they call.  We just never heard from them again.

The painters we had, got there 5-10 ahead of time, to set up to begin painting on time. I used to do the same for work. I prepped, as did our painters. More than that, are they getting there early to get on the clock so they can check out early? I think not!!!

Assuming OP had discussed with the painter that parking was an issue if he showed up before time, he was wrong.

If he wasn't warned, he could well have assumed she would have been thrilled to get the work started early.

He should have called to check before showing up 40 min early.... especially in the morning when the family needs to wake up, shower, eat.  I would have been upset, too.  I think being more than 5 or 10 minutes early for anything is rude.

Trying to get contractors to come out for estimates is like trying to call the Pope.  Getting them to provide a estimate in writing is like trying to find a unicorn!  If I call 20 contractors for a project 11 will show for an appt. All 11 want the job, but only ONE will provide a written quote.
