We pick up after ourselves so it really never gets cluttered. She works and is gone 11 hrs. a day and I do what I can, dusting, laundry etc. Floors, well my back objects, so she does those weekends.
I wish I were a tiny bit OCD and I might be if the old body worked better.
The way I view it, I never saw an obit or tombstone with, "you could eat off her floor."
My MIL use to love that said about her floors. I kept it to myself, but knew I'd never do that!!! LOL

@qualitygal My paternal Grandmother was a cleaning machine.
You could do surgery on her floors and not worry about infections.
I never ever saw any dust on any surface in that house and you could bounce a quarter on any bed she made.
Needless to say, I missed that gene. Also, it was no fun going to her house. You sat, no toys, no coloring books, and heaven forbid you even intertained the idea of finger painting.

@Pook It just makes me nervous and not able to really relax until things are put up. I don't enjoy myself otherwise. Each of us have our own payoff!
I was thinking the same thing. My anxiety level climbs when my house is messy or disorganized. I can't imagine living the rest of my life that way.

I read all the responses and agree with most everything. I'm tidy by nature, my DH.... not so much. It's my belief that you can't teach a messy person to love being neat any more than you can teach a neat person to love being messy.
I made up my mind decades ago to be the Organizer in Chief in my household. It allows me to live in my comfort zone. Yes, I'll ask him to follow my lead, and he tries, but he's had lifelong ADHD and it's difficult for him. In the end, I can sit and be miserable about him being messy or I can simply clean up the mess and be happy.
