It can be cleaned in the washer and dried in the dryer but, do use clean tennis balls in the dryer to fluff it. I told a friend she can do it but it does take time and patience. I told her, to make sure the comforter gets totally dry. (It takes a few hours to dry completely depending on how big the comforter).
Well, she didn't do everything I told her and she "Thought" it was totally dry. She put her comforter cover on it and guess what? It was a breading operation for MOLD! It became all Moldy!

I wash and dry my own too...the tennis balls are a must in the dryer. After the first time the dryer buzzes, I take mine out and rearrange it and put it back in for a little longer to make sure it is dry....

I have washed my down comforters many times over the years. The key for me was to put the tennis balls in with the comforter and run the high dry cycle 3-4 times making sure that they are completely dry. I have never had any problems with the smell of mildew on them. Good luck.

I do the same.

I dry them with those blue dryer balls that are like tennis balls but have "fingers" to give them an extra punch. I found that I usually have to put the comforter through several drying cycles since it takes a long time to dry.
Several years ago dried one in the dryer and it fell apart on me!...there were feathers everywhere!!! What a mess!
It's time for me to wash a couple of comforters and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that there are no problems!

I bought a pair of white Keds just for this purpose. So in the cabinet over the dryer, there is one white tennis shoe. I have the other one in an upstairs closet - just in case I lose the first one. Things in my laundry area tend to disappear sometimes! ![]()
