Re: How do you clean your down comforters?

It can be cleaned in the washer and dried in the dryer but, do use clean tennis balls in the dryer to fluff it.  I told a friend she can do it but it does take time and patience.  I told her, to make sure the comforter gets totally dry.  (It takes a few hours to dry completely depending on how big the comforter).

Well, she didn't do everything I told her and she "Thought" it was totally dry.  She put her comforter cover on it and guess what? It was a breading operation for MOLD!  It became all Moldy!

I wash and dry my own too...the tennis balls are a must in the dryer. After the first time the dryer buzzes, I take mine out and rearrange it and put it back in for a little longer to make sure it is dry....

Re: How do you clean your down comforters?

I have washed my down comforters many times over the years.  The key for me was to put the tennis balls in with the comforter and run the high dry cycle 3-4 times making sure that they are completely dry.  I have never had any problems with the smell of mildew on them.  Good luck.

I wash and dry my queen ones and dry them in the dryer to almost done with tennis balls, and put them outside to dry in the sun for it to really get it clean. I then fluff it again in the dryer with the tennis balls.

I do put mine in the washing machine, then in the dryer with tennis balls, they come out fine.

I do the same.

Re: How do you clean your down comforters?

I dry them with those blue dryer balls that are like tennis balls but have "fingers" to give them an extra punch. I found that I usually have to put the comforter through several drying cycles since it takes a long time to dry.

Several years ago dried one in the dryer and it fell apart on me!...there were feathers everywhere!!! What a mess!

It's time for me to wash a couple of comforters and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that there are no problems!

@SurferWife, it helps to fluff it up, I think some also use clean tennis shoes.

I bought a pair of white Keds just for this purpose. So in the cabinet over the dryer, there is one white tennis shoe. I have the other one in an upstairs closet - just in case I lose the first one. Things in my laundry area tend to disappear sometimes! Smiley Wink
