From what I am reading online Corian is about the same price as granite. It also scratches easier.

Need two coats of primer (since it only has the original paint from 25 years ago), and then a coat of flat white ceiling paint. Have finished one bathroom (with high ceiling), and it looks terrific so that motivates me to keep on going.
Once that is done, most likely by Christmas, I'll probably hire out to remove the old tile in the family room and kitchen and have it replaced with something more upgraded.
At that point, I should be done, have already:
- replaced ceiling fans
- replaced all electrical outlets and installed rocker switches
- removed all carpet for wood look tile
- had shutters installed
- painted entire inside of house
- upgraded two bathrooms
- upgraded kitchen with painted cabinets, new appliances, and granite
Most of the work I've done myself - so there really is some sweat equity in this house and it will be hard to sell since I love this house.
I hate to paint. Period.
Ceiling are the worst.
The work to empty a room and prep it for painting is like the end of the world to me. I've never liked it, and I like it less now.
We moved in 24 years ago, and painted and papered the entire house. It needs to be done again (ugh). We did my son's room and upstairs hallway a couple of years ago, but that is as far as we have gone. Painting interior doors this week, and that kind of painting I don't mind so much. Easy to do, and don't have to empty and prep the room.
I can't imagine what it costs to hire a GOOD painter though, so I guess I'll just start to tackle things myself after the doors.
I want to put beadboard on all our ceilings, hubby doesn't want that. We've been stuck at this impasse for a couple years now, lol. We have popcorn ceilings that I have never cared for, and over the years there are spots that needed touch ups so, imo, they need to just go, like underneath beadboard.
I also used to not mind painting, walls, but I just can't tackle those kinds of jobs anymore, unless I have weeks (an exaggeration) to get one room done (have to have too many breaks due to arthritis), but I'm still willing to do the work. I love how a fresh paint job changes the room and freshens it up.

@ snicks I feel your pain, I keep telling myself I'm only getting older and it's only going to get harder to do so that motivates me to keep going. My parents have the popcorn ceilings and they are awful, there is a patch that has fallen and there is no way to repair it since the paint just makes it more heavy and more prone to fall.
My sister has them in her condo and when I commented on fresh they looked (since now all I seem to look at is ceilings) she told me she painted them but the trick is to NOT go over the paint while it's still wet or the weight and dampness will make it fall. She said to start at the corner and move along along the walls and continue to move along like a square spiral (if that makes sense) until you get to the center of the room. That way, the area you've painted is dry enough for you to paint next to where you previously painted.
I would start by trying to get one wall done in a room in a day. That way moving the furniture isn't too bad, just move it away from the wall and then back when done with that one wall. Seeing the new paint will keep you motivated to continue. I've never cleared out a room to paint it, that would be way too much work for me.
When I was painting the ceiling in the bathroom the other weekend and up on a ladder, it made me notice how dusty the light fixture and tops of the doors are. Yikes, so now as I paint, I have to dust the areas that I rarely see.

In the last 5 years we have had the exterior painted: house and shutters, new driveway. Painted several rooms inside the house, carpet in 3 rooms up the stair way and down the hall. Small reno in kitchen...not new cupboards, but back splash, countertop, sink and fresh paint on the walls.
Renovated my bathroom....I still need a new tub/shower surround, we may go with bathfitters when we are ready.
We will be redoing our small fishpond in the back yard this spring.
Master bath has also been updated...that is dh's bath. It is a very small footprint - shower needs attention but that will have to wait.
All necessary things for up keep on the house.

We have plans to cover our patio area right off the screened in porch. The ceiling height will be about twenty feet so it is quite involved.
We really hate doing this but the leaves from the trees leave this area in a constant mess and I am forever cleaning it.
We are still trying to decide if we will do it ourselves or hire it out. We are do-it-yourselfers but this is a difficult project....so we shall see.

I put formica counter tops in the rec room, and it looks just like granite. It comes in all colors and patterns.

My house is 2 years old but it doesn’t have a backsplash and I also want to add drop lighting to the breakfast bar.

@151949, when we remodeled our kitchen in our first home we used corian, a speckled teal and they used an off white color for the back splash. They made us hot plates and I brought them with me. Here’s a sample of one

Well, this is a busy year for us. My husband has been slowly redoing our finished basement....new ceiling, recessed lights, doors, and moldings. Today he’s moving some electric outlets. Then comes painting, cabinets and counter for a dry bar, and new flooring.
We are also working with a contractor to add a 4 season room off of our living room. We back to woods and it’s something I’ve wanted for at least the last ten years.
The contractor is also going to rebuild two tiers of decking and tear out the large decked in pool.....hooray!
There are always things like painting that need to be done. But those are things that get done “whenever.”
