How about a thread sharing what renovation work

we are in the process of or planning for.

So as not to hijack the purging thread, I thought people might like to share here, when they plan or complete some updating, renovating type work.

Can be painting, flooring, building, new bath or kitchen, new paper, roof, windows etc.

I've been at it for over a month, tearing my mom's house down for new flooring (carpet and laminate) and putting it back together.

Today, to continued to update her refreshed space a little more, I installed new knobs on the kitchen cabinets, and new switch plates and  electrical outlet covers in a few rooms.

Then I came home and began painting the interior doors we had installed a couple of years ago. They were just primered in white, and I've put off getting them painted for way too long. There are 9 of them to do. Got one done this afternoon, and will pick up and start again tomorrow.

So anyone that wants to post their renovation projects, big or small, we can share them here!

Re: How about a thread sharing what renovation work

Great idea, @Mominohio.  This is a thread I'll enjoy following, even if we're not renovating.

Of course we have a wish list.  We'd love to install a stone patio.  We have the tiniest of powder rooms on the first floor.  As in many old houses, it was just wedged in, wherever they thought they could squeeze out a space.  So we'd love to have a full bath on the first floor, with tub and shower, etc.

Continuing to dream on, I'd love to have our big, walk-up attic converted to living space, maybe a studio with sky lights, etc.

We did do a partial remodel of the kitchen most recently--  new counters, painted wood cabinets, painted walls, new backsplash, new frig, etc.  That was welcome, but boy, so disruptive.  Worth it though.  I was hoping for an un-showy, vaguely retro Forties beach house kitchen vibe, and it sort of approximates that!

Re: How about a thread sharing what renovation work

Last year I purchased new outdoor lights, but haven't had them installed.  Once the weather warms up, I need to get that project done.  Looking at late May.  I want to paint a bathroom, but I'm not ready to commit to that project.  LOL

Going to visit my mother in two weeks.  Have a number of projects there.  Last visit, I painted the kitchen cabinets.  I need to finish the cabinet above the fridge and any touchups.  Also need to paint the kitchen.  Need to buy and hang a new backdoor.  Hoping to have the deck powerwashed before I get there, so I can stain it.  Those are the top projects.

Renovation is interesting.  I am a widow and do my own work on pretty much everything.  As long as it doesn't get technical.

I am in the process of remodeling my bathroom.  A new higher toilet, new sink, cabinet and medicine cabinet are on order as is  a new vinyl floor.  I am keeping my bath tub surround because it is perfect for my transport shower chair.  I bought a new 5'5" step ladder today.  I will be painting when everything comes & our contractor takes off all of the baseboards & removes the sink, cabinet & medicine cabinet & all of the towel bars.  I don't want anything in the way.

We finished painting our kitchen and painting the cabinets and spray painting the hardware. My wishlist is new countertop, back splash and new appliances.

We painted the living room, den, and hallway. Replaced inside doors and trim. We like to pay as we go otherwise I’d do it all at one time. Need to paint the four bedrooms. We have enough projects for the rest of my life.

Re: How about a thread sharing what renovation work

This came just a little late for us!  Over the past few years we have done a new kitchen, new carpeting, new wood floors and l new bathroom!  In 2011 we had the outside of our house painted and in 2016 we had the whole inside of the house painted and crown molding installed.

This last October we had our outside completely re-landscaped.  Oh and in 2010 we had our roof repapered with the same tiles replaced!    So, not whole lot left to do but you never know.   We love keeping up our home.  It's expensive but so worth it!

I look forward to this thread.  Great idea!

@Mominohio

nice topic!

Since we bought this house early 2014 (which was in great condition) it's needed updates:

2014 - replaced all carpeting

2015 - Kitchen remodel: the hinges started "breaking" on the original "particle" board faux formica cabinets (track housing at its best😉): so spouse said call a cabinet place to fix them.  Well, I

sure did --had complete new Innovations self closing cabinets installed...which led to kitchen redesign & granite countertops!

Installed all new plumbing lines which were up to code & shutoff valves .

I took before/after pics but can't find them🙄

2016 - new roof & new a/c unit

2017 - replaced all single pane windows with tilt-style triple pane

replaced sliding doors in DR and kitchen

new screens on our lanai area & doors

This year so far:

Had all track lighting removed, outlets, and new switches put in.

Next, flooring in kitchen/den and utility, hallways replaced

Had  entire house painted, new plantation shutters installed & wood blinds.  That led to updating furniture in den😊 (of course, spouse got his 75" Sony Bravia he'd been drooling over for a year🙄).

Had garage painted inc. ceiling.  And last but not least, we are having the garage flooring done.  It was stained & unpainted concrete.  This company doing it came in and sealed, put epoxy paint, then "sprinkled" with cool colored chips -- it's  in drying/curing stage.  Next week they will put the final poly coats on & after completely dry (hope it's quick!).  We are having garage cabinet system put in & new garage opener.

Everything looks fresh & clean!  I was very pleased with all the contractors well worth the price.

The guest bathroom is just getting a updated facelift.  New vanity with quartz top, fixtures both lighting and sink, new tile flooring & updated paint.

Master bath - total gut job.  Everything being replaced & redesigned doing next year.

Final house project this year installing new 6 panel raised interior doors.  Right now they are "track housing hollow flat doors).

Right now, I'm patiently to do the 💃💃💃💃💃when everything is back in its place & I can enjoy it!!!  This project started 1/29 and almost to finish line.....

Next step, I'm selling bedroom furniture because to large for guest room, inc. california king bed.  I'm going to inquire about putting murphy bed wall system in the room OR queen mattress and small bedside tables & 1 small dresser.

Then on my true wish list if he ever agrees I want pavers in driveway.  He doesn't like them i love them🤔 And a new front door with decorative glass insert -- he says too expensive but he'll change his mind after I pick it out & have installed.

I enjoy seeing & hearing what changes, renovations etc. people to do their homes.  How I wish I was knowledgeable to do home construction.

When done & I recover from the $$$ well spent I'm booking a 7-day cruise just to rejuvenate.  Just me to relax, beach days, good food & meet people for 7 great days.  Thinking of going again on Allure of Seas in October😊🌴☀️⚓️🛳🏝🏖🏄‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏸🎣

Having the second garage turned into a bonus room, also having a pool house/ storage building built. It’s turning out so cute, I may call it my “ she shed” 😊
