Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

5 year old Cafe GE is quiet.  Its the French Door version.

As people respond, it reiterates that one cannot compare older versions to newer ones.  Manufacturing has thrown quality out so that we have to buy more often.  Loved all of my old Kenmore products.  They were so dependable.  Now we live with fear that appliances will die at 10 years.

Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

I also have a Frigidare side by side and it is not that old.  Tag on inside says made in Mexico,  It is loud all the time and I can hear ice drop a lot.  My water line for the defrost stays frozen up and water drains into the bottom of the freezer, no matter how many  times we take it apart and defrost the line, its frozen again,.  I have hardwood kitchen floors so I make a dam out of 2 or 3 microfiber towels or the water leaks on the floor out of the door.. Then I take out a block of ice frozen once every 2 weeks.  Whatever you do DO NOT BUY A FRIGIDAIRE

Love my Frigidare Gallery. It's quiet until it releases the ice into the ice tray. One brand I would avoid is Samsung. Had nothing but problems with mine. The ice maker was constantly freezing up. Maybe they have improved that problem. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

I just bought new kitchen appliances and they are all GE. My refrigerator is very quiet. My previous appliances were GE and never had a problem.

I know you didn't inquire but the best place to buy appliances is Costco. There prices are well below many appliance stores. Also, included in your purchase is delivery, installation, haul away, parts  and 2 year warranty. Many places charge extra fees.

Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

Just replaced our refrigerator 2 weeks ago. We replaced our old LG with a new LG. Our original LG lasted a long time and was very quiet. The condenser died, which forced me to jump online and look for sales. Lowe's was having a fantastic sale. We saved $1,900 on a $3,700 refrigerator. We bought LG french door with dual ice makers and double freezer doors. Zero sounds other than the chime if a door or drawer is left open too long. The whole process was quick and easy. Our refrigerator was delivered the next day.

Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

SUBZERO.....very quiet, but very expensive. french doors on top, freezer on the bottom. icemaker is on the inside, filtered water is on the inside. we are on year three.

prior to that we had a custom built in KITCHENAID that lasted 35+ years. we looked at those again before we went with the SUBZERO because of looks, features, and reputation.
