Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

I have a GE that I bought at Home Depot over 10 years ago.  It's a traditional fridge with the freezer on top.  I absolutely hate the freezer section because it's too dang small.  I'm very limited though with the size of fridge I can get.

I'm also not fond of the fridge section.  They made the shelves on the inside of the door deeper so they jut into the fridge part further, which takes away from the inside space!  All the different brands I looked at back then were designed like this, so I had no choice.

As for noise, I think it's possessed.  It makes this eerie sound like a ghost after it shuts off from a cooling cycle.  "Woooooo-oooooo".  .....i yi yi.....

My Whirlpool is four or five years old and very quiet.

Re: How Quiet is Your Refrigerator?

We have a GE side by side.  Very quiet but I hate the side by side.  It was here when we bought our condo.  Wishing it would break down!!! so we could get a different model.  But we've had GEs for just about all our appliances for many years and have not had any problems.

I couldn't agree more.

Every new appliance I have bought has been a disappointment,

My 35 year old Hotpoint is so quiet that I can not tell when it is running. It is in our hot garage all summer long and it keeps everything cold and frozen. Couldn't ask for more from a refrigerator.

Have a Maytag in the kitchen. It is quiet but sometimes once in awhile you notice a noise.

Except when the ice releases into the interior bin it's very quiet, never hear it.  It's a Samsung French door / door in door refrigerator.

Our dishwasher is the only kitchen appliance that runs a bit loud at times.

My old dishwasher sounded like a 747 landing lol.  We replaced it with a Bosch.  it is SO quiet, Bosch has a red light at the bottom that reflects on the floor to show that it is running.  Absolutely love it.

I know they have really gone up in price
Have you thought of going to a wholesalers?

@katie1859 We usually go to the Metro store near us, I avoid the big box stores for appliances mostly.  I'm looking for the most reliable one, but noise levels you really can't get a handle on so I appreciate all of the input from posters here!

Did you know that you can remove the ice maker to make more room in the freezer?  DH has done that whenever we find one installed:  he needs the space and will use old-fashioned ice trays.  When we sell the place, he reinstalls the ice maker.

Since we don't use many ice cubes, he makes them fresh.
