Have you learned how to do household repairs by watching youtube videos?
I wish I was handy with a hammer and a saw; I think for every repair that needs done there is a youtube instructional video.
I'm not mechanically inclined but I would love to discover a hidden talent for home repairs.....has anyone become adept at repairs you previously had to hire someone to do?

I learned how to change my AC capacitor after watching a youtube video last summer when it would not cool the house. The year before I had to pay over $200 for labor and a part that cost $10 at the hardware store and it took all of 10 minutes to change out...GO YOUTUBE!![]()

My sister and I used to hang out in the kitchen with mom learning to cook. Since we both turned out to be divorced honeowners, we've reflected we should have hung out with dad in the garage. He could fix anything and had all the tools. My husband was the same. Boy do I have the tool collection! I've become very adept at using most of them, except the circular saw which is too heavy for me to safely use.

DH and I were able to reset our disposal after watching YouTube. Not much but that’s all we’ve needed it for so far.

I'm lucky, my husband is very smart and willing to try to fix or build just about anything. He has remodeled our bathroom and built an addition onto the shed he built years ago.

YT? Nothing. Dudes IRL? Everything.
I can change an old fashioned faucet stem with a stem puller. Hot & cold, thank you. I changed the heating elements out on an electric hot water tank, dude lent me his tools.
I had cheap vinyl baseboard in a rental that curled when the drywall got wet in the bathroom. Fixed the drywall with a screen and patch. Heated the vinyl cove base with a hair dryer till it was pliable and then glued it to the wall. Dude I used to chat with taught me that one. I wanted my deposit back!
I've rewired a lamp. Yep, dude taught me.
I admit I do call a professional more often now. Just couldn't afford it when I was young.

My sister and I learned various things by helping dad around the house. I consider myself pretty handy.

@YorkieonmyPillow I learned how to fix my leaking ice maker by watching a video on youtube. It only took a hairdryer and a pencil to melt the ice that had frozen in the small tubing.
If I have instructions I will attempt to fix just about everything myself, and so far have been quite amazed at how easy it is to fix things around the house.
I can't even list all the things I've fixed myself, including replacing light fixtures, ceiling fans, bathroom faucets, fixed a leaking toilet, outdoor sprinkler systems, replaced electrical outlets, replaced ceiling fans and more. Right now, I have a new bathroom light fixture to hang and an ugly 80's ceiling fan to replace in a spare bedroom.
It really isn't complicated, and all long as you are safe and read the instructions, I have confidence that I could fix just about everything.

I've learned how to change easy parts from watching youtube videos.
Would I attempt an electrical outlet or plumbing part, nope don't think so!

I married an extremely handy guy 40 years ago! I've picked it up the years being married to him. We do just about everything ourselves when it comes to fixing and repairing. We've saved soooo much money and aggravation through the years. When we do it, at least I know its done correctly.
