Re: Horrible surprise when I removed the softener cup in my washer...

Interesting thread. I also quit using fabric softener - the softener dispenser in my front loader got mold/mildew on it constantly and I got tired of cleaning it.

My question is: Vinegar has a strong smell - do your clean clothes smell like vinegar?

After reading this thread, I had to do my towels yesterday. Nope, no vinegar smell, and I had wondered about that too. That made me happy, and I did the towel to face feel, and they were fluffy and soft. Thanks ladies, I do learn new things on here and appreciate the nice and helpful posts.

I never knew this. How do you add the vinegar , at the start if the wash or put in the fabric softener dispenser and how much per load?

Gunky fabric softener is why I prefer to use the dryer sheets. I simply wash the lint catcher with soapy water after I finish the weeks laundry and it removes any deposits on there so no chance of it catching fire and there is no static on my clothing - which is the only reason I use any softener at all.

Is this the thread where new humans have just landed on Planet Earth? Why is this so mind blowing to people? No offense, but hydrogenated fats and oils do the same thing in your body but most people don't seem to worry about this as much. Same clogging and slime floating around your system. So the lesson is don't eat anything that has the same thing you're finding sludging up your fabric softener dispenser. And toss out all the food that has that stuff in it (read your labels).

no it is not.it does seem to be A thread where a superior-feeling human had posted. Really? Why be smug ? You don't know something until you know it. If this was not true we would already know everything.... And in the process you decide to chastise us about our diets.

Where am I chastising anyone for their diets? Please point that out. Thank you.

It is important that all humans read what they consume. Comparing the sludge one finds in their fabric softener dispenser is a very good comparison to what hydrogenated oils and fats does to the body human.

And…where is there "smug" found in my comments? Please point that out. Thank you.

If you hear "smug" when you read comments, then it is you who is putting that tone on comments. Therefore read them without hearing "smug". See? Not smug at all.

Stopped using it years ago. Think it's a waste of money. I use laundry balls in the dryer which do not put a film on clothes.

Ok, I have never heard of using vinegar. This sounds great Since I'm sensitive to ingredients in fabric softener. I read in one of the responses that you put it in the fabric softener slot on the washing machine, but how much per load? I have a HE front load washer. TIA

Re: Horrible surprise when I removed the softener cup in my washer...

I also gave up liquid fabric softener years ago and I don't miss it at all. The liquid was leaving a film on my clothes. Sometimes I use vinegar (1 cup in an extra large load, less for smaller loads; I have an old-fashioned top loader with no dispenser. I pour in the vinegar when the rinse water is filling) but most of the time I don't use it and I really don't notice any difference.

I will use a dryer sheet on rare occasions like when I'm drying synthetics like acrylic sweaters or my husband's polyester work pants that get static cling. I use the box of dryer sheets from Dollar Tree (60 sheets for $1) and they work fine and the scents are light and not overpowering like the name brands sold in the supermarket.

Was just my take on your comments, ical. To say it's like new humans landing on earth and it was mined blowing just because they didn't know about fabric softener sludge just came across smug to me...to me. To say "most people" dont worry about eating certain fats and the lesson is to stop, read labels, and throw away certain foods... sound like a chastising thing to me...to me. Then you proceed to tell me how to read your comments. My point was that if the OP didn't know she does now.We discover something new and then we know it. We don't all discover it simultaneously.
