Re: High Low Living Room

[ Edited ]

I'd be dazed and confused in that space, too much going on.

How would you dust those books?

I wonder if the designers who come up with these ideas even like the room or are they just joking us.  Your legs would have to be 6 feet long to sit back and be comfortable in what passes for chairs/sofa.

@lolakimono, the only thing I like is the floor to ceiling bookcase on the right that can be accessed on both floors.  I don’t like it’s placement near the fireplace though.  It dwarfs the fireplace.  LM

There is only one thing I like about this room - the crown molding.

OK, the wall of book shelves is fine, looks like they have glass doors, also good.

The black shelves and railing are fine, a modern approach.

Not getting anything else in the room though ... that uncomfortable looking furniture just is not inviting nor attractive.

That work of whatever it is is over the fireplace is wayyy too busy... the curvy mounding trim is way too formal for this space. And, those chrome hanging lights look like small shower heads - hmmm, thinking recessed lighting or a more substantial spot light fixtures.

Also, that ladder on the left - totally lacking - should be a nice heavy wood piece with some character and heft for that space.

(I could do wonders with this space!)

I'm ok with the bookshelves, but that is about it -

Feeling:  Battle lines are drawn down the middle, up and down, even the pillow rolls further entrenching the “ sitters”.   Or, a bilevel jail cell.

Would like to see the “ After “ photo.

Other than the thing over the fireplace, it works for me.

A relative had a similarly modelled room (let's call it "Scan" with some international influences).  Strangely enough, there were great conversations held there and lots of social interaction.

I love the colors.  Icy pale blue and warm tan, and black.  Of course, white, but a lot of that comes from the books.  I'd like to see it a night with the overhead lighting on, and a fire.

The whole thing is beautifully proportioned.

I like it.  A lot.
