My wood dresser drawers smell awful. I have tried Lysol and Dryer sheets....What can I do to keep the drawers smelling good? I was looking for sachets, but could only find Lavender, which I can't stand....any suggestions are appreciated. I am tired of my clothes smelling stale when I pull them out!

Re: Help with smelly Dressers!

Get some nicel scented sopa and put the bars in the drawers.  Also one of those things that absorbs oders--some come in a tin.  Might try a little bag or bowl of charcoal too!

How about using Fabreze (spelling is probably incorrect) ... I am sure you have seen the commercial where the mom goes into her son's room & tells him how bad the room smells & that they have to "wash" everything .... then they use Fabreze!!! ... it's worth a try!!!

If the drawers themselves are wooden a light sanding with a power sander might freshen things up. My vintage drawers were getting that horrid stale smell and a light sanding did the trick.

Baking soda (boxes made for fridge that are breathable but won't leak out in each drawer.

You can also try those absorbing deodorizing tubs in each drawer. Keep to light linen or fresh air scents. Wipe down the  inside of drawers with vinegar and water mix. Febreeze spray. The sanding suggestion is really brilliant!

Nevermind! My suggestion was Febreeze which others mentioned by the time I posted.

These are all good suggestions to try!

Good luck!

I agree with lightly sanding the drawers, and then airing them outside in the hot sun for several hours.

Charcoal briquettes work work very well to absorb odors, so you could put a few in the drawers, in a deep plastic deli type container to keep your clothing from touching the charcoal.

Re: Help with smelly Dressers!

I would think that dryer sheets would make it worse!  Those things are hideously strong.

I'd also be careful with the Febreze.  That stuff is also very strong but more importantly if you have birds it will kill them and if anybody in the house hold has upper respiratory issues it can make them sick.   That stuff will make me start wheezing in a hot second.   Plus, I used to belong to a bird board (until all the stupid human tricks that caused death and damage to birds was just too much) and I can't tell you how many people used Febreze in their houses and wondered why their birds died by the next day.

I cannot imagine why the wood would smell bad unless it is getting wet and causing mold problems.  You don't have a humidifier in there, do you?  Or, do you live in a particularly humid climate?

Re: Help with smelly Dressers!

I never noticed a smell until I moved a month ago. I am in MN, so not humid but I no longer have central AC so I have the window open a lot......
