Help with Sewing Machine Purchase please ....

I'm a real beginner. I know nothing about sewing or sewing machines. However, next tuesday I have a sewing lesson and I need to have a machine! I have a project I want to work on with my teacher, and we will be sewing more custume-like things - working with some thicker fabrics, like faux fur (the stuffed animal type of faux fur) and maybe some felt. I have identified two machines at this point and wonder what you guys think and which you would prefer (for me). I'm also open to suggestions. I'd like to spend 150ish or less.
