Help With a Church Ladies Candlelight Dinner

I am responsible for fully decorating and supplying all of the table decorations down to the place settings for 6 for a church ladies candlelight dinner fund raiser. I am torn between a candy cane ( candy canes are a religious syy ideas mbol) theme with candy cane trees, red and white candles, etc or a winter white theme of white and silver with angels. Which do you think would be better? Also any suggestions are welcome since I have never done this before. My loving hubby passed away last year so I am trying to do something outside of myself this holiday.
