Re: Help! Any paint pros out there?

Oh I LOVE using the paint with primer! Its the best invention! I use Behr from Home Depot and really am very impressed with the quality of this paint! I really don't think you need strength to roll the paint thinner. Just roll it longer to make the paint spread.

Hi Paint Pals,

Thanks one more time to all! I have learned a lot and didn't know there was an additive for paint! Anyway, the second coat worked and looks very nice. I was fretting for nothing but I'll bet you helped more than me on future paint jobs.

See you around,

Cathy

Never skimp on your brushes or rollers. If you're using the cheap stuff that came with the pan, roller kit, etc, pitch it and invest in a good quality set. It may set you back a few $$ but in the long run it's worth it.

I've used semi gloss with good success in my kitchens and bathrooms. In fact SW used to have a wall paint called Kids Room that was semi gloss. Tough as nails and scrubbed really well which is what it's made to do.

I'm not a fan of primer and wall paint all in ones. I've also switched to Behr and find it now far superior to SW.

Behr has primer in the paint, at least out here.

Re: Help! Any paint pros out there?

another reason could have been if it was new drywall with the sprayed on flat paint, the first time you use "real paint" on the wall it will soak right in and seem darker and streaky until you do that second coat. Happy the second coat ended with good results for you. I always have to do two coats no matter what kind I use. I think it's because I put it on too thin as I don't have the strength do handle a heavy roller full of paint. So, I opt for two thin coats vs one heavy coat.

Re: Help! Any paint pros out there?

For mark free roller painting, begin by rolling a large "W" on the wall then fill in by rolling up and down then crosswise to cover. Repeat this process feathering in with a less loaded paint roller where you've cut in. Try applying a second coat this way--it will be well worth the extra effort! We've been applying paint using this method for over 40 years.

Oops--I didn't see that you've already done a second coat! Glad it worked for you. Hope this helps someone else!

Yes, there were places that were so rough it felt like no paint at all. This is our first new home and I'm 60+.

It is so nice of you all to answer and I still have more rooms to paint so I honor all your advice!

Don't know if someone has mentioned this, but when painting with semi-gloss, a short nap roller is what you need to use that you'll push onto the metal roller frame. If you use a roller meant for latex, which is really kind of fuzzy, you'll get those marks on your wall. There's a huge difference in the two rollers and the results that are achieved using semi-gloss.

You're right and I've used semi-gloss on walls with great success. For some rooms, I like the sheen it gives and it's much easier to clean.
