Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

I know I have.  I do not decorate like I use to.  I now have a very small, artificial tree that is semi flocked so you can still see the green and I decorate with tiny ornaments.  I will do a little decorating in the kitchen and I decorate a mirror in the living room with flocked greens, tiny ornaments and tiny lights.  This year I bought silver tiny bells garland from Crate & Barrel and I hung on my iron headboard.  That's it.  How about you?

Re: Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

In my younger days I decorated everything that didn't move. 😸 However now I just have a smaller tree, a wreath over the fireplace, and a garland hanging from the mantle. I will have candles in the window, and a fresh wreath on my front door, with prelit greenery baskets hanging on the porch. I find dragging those few things out and the thought of putting them away daunting. Every year I say, no more, but the holidays convince me otherwise. 🎄

That sounds very pretty, @Katcat1

I haven't been decorating much in recent years.

I may put up my silly tinsel tree in the living room, but then again I may just stick with the semi-flocked one that I only decorate with birds.

It's not the decorating, it's the putting away that I  no longer want to do.

Here's some from years past that may or may not happen this year.

Re: Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

I'm 70 & do the same Christmas decorating inside but outside is less since I don't do the ladder anymore for hanging lights. I upsized last year & got a 6ft potted tree with multifunction lights & use the smaller tree I had in my bedroom...I'm enjoying it all of it but if the decorating becomes to much I'll cut back.

Putting the tree on a stack of books is cute and I love the critters!

Re: Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

@Katcat1  I have not cut back yet, but I certainly can see that day coming. DH is less and less interested in helping me, so it depends on how much energy I have. I decorate mostly with lights and candles, so it isn't too hard to switch out the candle rings and add some light strands. The tree is the hardest. It takes me at least 3 days to decorate it. But as long as the children and grandchildren enjoy it, I'm going to keep it up.

[ Edited ]

@PA Mom-mom   I forgot to mention that I am 71 years old and my birthday is coming up in December 5 days before Christmas. I have COPD with emphysema so it is difficult for me to do too much.  That was so sweet of you to mention your grandchildren liking the decorations.

Re: Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

I have always hated to decorate for Christmas.  Natural trees are dirty and have mold on them and artificial trees are dusty.  I am allergic.

I am not crazy about glitter and tinsel and having to dust all that junk that was in the basement for the last 11 months.

To get to the point, IMO it is silly to do all that work ...for what?

When my kids were young, I felt obligated. Now it is just DH and me. I refuse to decorate, so now he drags out a small tree that is already decorated and puts lights up outside. If he doesn't do it, it doesn't get done.

I do change the wreath on the door as I do for every season, gladly.

Christmas has nothing to do with all that trashy decor junk. It is way too much hype and money for my taste and a lot of it looks tacky.

Re: Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

We just donated our 3 ft tree. No tree anymore but I kept the tub of ornaments. Why?

Mainly I decorate the mantel. No more outside decor. It is -11 and we just don't feel like it.

Re: Have you Cut down on Christmas decorations?

About the same as last year.

Bought one Mr. Christmas large blow mold lighted candle at the Frazer outlet for outside the front door, a VPH type wreath stand, small wreath and winter print pillow, all from the thrift store, and a centerpiece for the DR table on sale at Big Lots yesterday. So much for not adding any new Christmas decor.

I decorated yesterday; that's done. The tree will be completed tomorrow morning. I think I displayed all the decor I had from last year and years past- inside and out.

I did not put up my second, 5 foot tree last year and I don't plan on putting it up this year, either. One 7 foot tree is time consuming enough.

I have no desire to add any more decor unless I come across something really special and unique. Moving everything around and up/down from the basement is not fun. For me, less is more with seasonal/ holiday decor, and the areas available for display are limited in my smaller home.
