There was one at my grandparents summer cabin on Grand Mesa in Colorado.  They had no running water (spring water) or electricity.  Cooked on a big wood stove.

It was quite a novelty for us city kids.  We loved it there.

Yep, visiting kin in the back hills of KY. Had to fetch water from a local spring, no electricity, cooked on a wood stove, and, of course, there was an outhouse.

No problems with the outdoor, man made plumbing, except for the morning I opened the outhouse door to find a giant snake curled up on the floor.

That was an --- I'll hold it forever moment, with me screeching all the way back to the cabin. One of my uncles was out on the porch laughing like crazy. He said: "What did he look like?" When I told him he said, yeah that's our regular.

At the old Homestead in Alabama, I think it was in the 80s when they finally put in indoor plumbing; no one lives there now all the old timers have passed on.

Kind of. 55 years ago when I was living in South America friends invited me to their parents' house for Christmas. The parents had plenty of money -- the house was the biggest and newest in town. But there were no utilities yet in the primitive area.

The outhouse was beautifully designed and completely tiled.

Yes, I used one at my grandmother's home many years ago.

My mother was always afraid of them for as a child she was sitting in one and was pecked on her behind by a chicken who was in the bottom of the outhouse.

I did not use it, but there is an outhouse behind a historic school building in White Oaks, NM. Someone built a holder on the outside which held a bottle of Purell. It was a hilarious juxtaposition of the historic and modern times.

Oh yes,  on my grandparent's farm in Iowa until they had indoor plumbing installed. I was about 4 or 5 that I can remember, and didn't like it at all. Grandma probably didn't either since she had to take me out there! I made sure I didn't get dirty when I stayed with them, because bath was in a big galvanized tub until they had their bathroom installed!

What @geezerette said, especially the unfortunately part.
