My hardwood floors are throughout the house and over 50 years old.  I've re-finished them twice. Love them. 

Newer hardwoods are not the same, nice but certainly don't have the same character or feel.

I have pergo flooring in another home.  It serves its purpose.  I'd never put hardwood in the second house because of its locaton and the wear it gets. 

 

Do I prefer one over the other- of course - I like the hardwood, but I still like my Pergo.

 

Would I be insulted if you asked me the difference?  Not at all.  Much depends on how you ask and if I would even entertain allowing somebody to insult me.
