I wanted to share something that I do.  I am short, 5' 2". I find that new washing machines (top loaders), can be very deep.  I can't reach the bottom to retrieve clean laundry.

I have a nice pair of silicone tongs that I keep beside machine.  It easily extends my reach and I no longer strain or hurt my torso trying to get things at the bottom.  I thought it might help some of my shorter friends!

That's a great idea!  I'm going to buy a pair of silicone tongs just for that purpose!  I'm 5'1" and my washer is very deep.

That's a nice, practical tip @Coastalcarolina .  Thank you for posting.

I sometimes use tongs to reach things that have somehow moved to the back of my deep frig.

I seem to need those grabber tongs in every room in the house, and in the garage, too.

They never seem around in the right place when I need them.

@Coastalcarolina   Thank you!  I'm 5'4" and can't reach either.  Great idea.  I get on a small step stool, probably not the best idea, and a chance of a fall.

I welcome things like having to bend over, reach for something, etc. It's good exercise! Unless of course one is handicapped-then I would resort to tongs or whatever works.

How about a little step stool?  Wouldn't that work?
