Not knowing what your decor is, how about just folding it at the foot of your bed, for the winter months. Sometimes an accent like that doesn't have to "match." It's a memory, and that's more important than the fact that it matches. And, when it's really chilly out, it will be there to snuggle under.
Or, pull it out to use when you need it, and then tuck it away, if it truly doesn't fit in any of your rooms.
I know exactly what you mean about handmade items. Many years ago, I did a lot of counted cross stitch and many of the pieces were on linen. Most are samplers and they took a lot of time to make. When my husband and I had our first wills drawn up, our daughter was young, and I specified that those pieces were to be kept for her. Now, many years later, that stipulation is no longer in our will. It was something I enjoyed doing at the time. A few of them I still use, some I have put away, and some I have given away. When I'm no longer here, I don't really care what happens to them.
I say you should hang on to your afghan and if it does nothing else but remind you of your accomplishment, then that's worth it. But, I would still find a way to use it this winter. I bet you can make it work someplace.

Believe it or not, I use them in my dogs' beds, in the bed of my truck when I need a cushion for furniture purchases (grandma would turn over in her grave), and wash as necessary. I'm using one rigt now as a tree skirt on the front porch (the pattern you always saw on the back of Roseanne's couch - and she used to live on the same street I was born on in SLC, and where my grandma lived), and if we need extra covers they go on the bed. They wear like iron and I have fun playing up the vintage appeal when I change up my seasonal decor. I even put them in the dryer (though not the one my sister made; it's lovely but her knots are a bit dicey . . .).
They are cherished but meant to be used.
Hey Sweetbay Magnolia:
Small world. I am familiar with the street you're talking about in SLC. That area has really grown.
I lived just a few minutes from there for many years. I was raised in the area east of Highland High.

Scooby Doo - too funny! I will tell my Mom. She probably trudged through the snow to get to school.
My other Granny lived on Yale. Nice to connect with you.

Hello All,
I haven't been on the forums for several days...been busy, so sorry for the delay in posting again. I greatly appreciated everyone's responses and have decided to keep it
Sweetbay magnolia, I graduated in 1977 too!
You mentioned "they are cherished and meant to be used"...
Like you and others have suggested, whether or not the afghan matches the decor, I will find someplace to display and use it!

Hi Sue52, Here's a pic of the afghan. It's folded up and the dimensions are about 60" x 80"...

That is so pretty and looks perfect. You certainly have talent for that type work. Glad you are keeping it.

That's really beautiful Susan. I would keep it for now and I'm sure you'll either find a use for it yourself or someone will come along that it will be perfect for. It's too nice to sell on Ebay and not get what it's worth. My 2 cents but I am a pack rat-![]()
