Hi SL, I certainly wouldn't worry about the colors matching other décor. A beautiful piece like that Afghan is a stand alone piece, meant to be shown off. I too, used to do needlework and can fully appreciate the beauty of a well made piece. I say, keep it and give it a place in your home. It's very beautiful.

Susan Louise, the afghan is so beautiful. I would never part with that. Keep it, you will be sorry if you ever got rid of it. I can't believe a family member hasn't jumped on it. I would fit that beautiful piece of art right into my home decor....and, it is art.

Hi Sue52, Here's a pic of the afghan. It's folded up and the dimensions are about 60" x 80"...

OMGoodness - that is GORGEOUS !

SL - I am a fellow crocheter, done it for years. There's no way I'd part with that beautiful afghan. Heck with animal rescue either, just too nice. I've made a blankie for my dog, but it was very simple & made to withstand her wear & tear. Don't hassle with EBay, you won't get a good return.

I think it is absolutely beautiful. Keep it out over a chair or something and I'll bet one of your relatives will want it. I can't imagine that they wouldn't. Otherwise, I agree with suggestions to donate it to a charity that does auctions etc. to raise funds.

Your afghan is beautiful !! Please put it on display in your home. I can't imagine someone not wanting that wonderful piece of art.

I am sitting here typing this while wrapped in an afghan crocheted by my paternal grandmother about 40 years ago. It is a cherished treasure to me. It is all in a cream color.

If I close my eyes, I can see Grandmama in my memories rocking back and forth in her rocker with her right foot on an ottoman; her black metal glasses pushed down on her nose slightly; her long gray hair twisted into a bun. She is carefully and methodically crocheting each perfectly aligned course of yarn with the rhythmic motion of her rocker.

It is a work of love, art, and a symbol of days gone by. There's so much more than an afghan wrapped around me.

Please put the history of the afghan in writing and store it with the afghan for future reference. You never know, someone may really cherish this beautiful work and the history that goes with it. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hi SL,

That is absolutely beautiful. The color is so vibrant and such a nice job. I do agree with some of the others about it not having to match your decor. I change the quilts on our bed 4-5 times a year and they do not match my decor but do not take away from them or my bedroom. I read a long time ago that quilts do not have to match and I think that goes for you afghan. I am glad to see that you are going to keep it and will find a special place to display it.

I do know for experience that you will not get anywhere what it is worth if you try to sell on ebay. I have not sold on ebay but a lady in my quilt group gave a handmade quilt to our Historical Society to raise money for them. It was sold on ebay for far less than the amount it cost to make the quilt, not counting the time it took to make it. Then this past year at our quilt club my friend and I made a queen size quilt for the silent auction at our quilt show for the Historical Center and it was practically given away. We had much more in the fabric than it went for.

I never thought I could sell any of my quilts I made but was asked about selling one to a friends friend. I did find a couple I felt I could part with and am happy to say that I did sell one and got a nice amount for it. There is no way I would have sold it other wise. Truthfully I should sell more as I have more than either of my kids would want once I am gone.

Thanks again SL for sharing the picture with us. Love the colors and you can be proud of the work you did on it.
