As I was reminiscing about my childhood Christmas' and how magical and filled with love they were...I was thinking about my dear sweet mother who decorated the whole house and made it so magical. Even though decorations were way more simplistic back in the '60s ...she would always have Holiday decorations in every room ...even the bathroom. The mantle had artificial snow, styrofoam snowmen, stockings, tons of bottle brush trees and of course the Nativity and creche displayed prominently in the middle. The formal dining table had a sleigh with reindeer filled with beautiful ornaments. In the bathrooms my mom would hang ornaments from ribbon going all the way across the mirrors. Other beautiful wall decorations she would hang up and of course our family tradition was to go to the mountains and cut down a fresh tree every year. Of course my dad would do the cutting. I remember how magical it was when my mom decorated that beautiful fresh smelling tree. Glass blown ornaments and she would hang each silver icicle one by one(remember those big lights that we all used to put on the Christmas tree). And of course Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole would be playing in the background. My dad would be burning a fire in the fireplace. I can't forget all the bayberry candles my mom would place around the house ( to this day I can't smell a bayberry candle without it taking me back to my childhood)and my dad would hang those big christmas lights all around the outside of the house. Such wonderful childhood memories. I can remember every decoration like it was yesterday. What are YOUR memories growing up as a child at Christmas time and how did your family decorate ?
