Apparently, actress Ellen Pompeo and music producer husband Chris Ivery are quite the real estate moguls.  They have several houses, and this is their latest L.A. house.  It's designed by the exuberant Brit, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, who worked with her on her last house.

They seem to love Spanish houses, and a certain spaciousness and volume, which I've noticed in both her previous home and now this one.  I normally enjoy touches of Art Deco, but these velvet deco chairs in here, I don't know, they look too 'contrived' or something to me.  They do pick up the lamps and throw pillows color nicely though.

By contrast with the huge living room, the dining room is intimate,  oriented toward that fabulous view.  Striking pendant light.

Again, this den is a cozy respite, I think, from that airy living room.  Nice to have lounging spaces very different in mood from each other....

Are those slim reeds forming that barrel roof over the patio-- nice rustic touch.  And what a cutie their little girl is!

Below, thought you might like to see their former living room in their previous house in the Hollywood hills, also done by Martyn Lawrence Bullard.  There was a big spread on it in "Elle Decor" magazine.

I somewhat prefer it to the new house, partly because of its provenance--  it was a residence of the young Ronald Reagan!  To me it has more of a typical, Twenties' "old Hollywood" Spanish house vibe.  I love the arches, the wrought iron, and the lack of pretension.  It had only 2 bedrooms.  Martyn Lawrence Bullard did a nice job of bringing up to date features with it, yet retaining the old character--   I like to imagine Ronnie running in after a tennis game with William Holden (a good friend) or something, and dashing up those stairs for a shower:

You can see the similarities to the new house though.  It had huge windows too (which you can't see in this photo), but they were arched.

Visually beautiful, but I don't feel warmth.

I do love the spaciousness of a few rooms and the patio.  I am not a fan of much of the furnishings and decor and do not get a cozy and or comfortable feeling as a result.  While it isn't my taste I saw a few things I liked but on the whole, much didn't appeal.

Yes, their daughter is adorable, it's nice to see the people who live there too.

Several years ago, there was a show on Bravo called "Million Dollar Decorators" that was sort of part of the Million Dollar Listing LA world & Martyn Lawrence Bullard was one of the featured decorators.  He was a very interesting character.  The show only ran for a couple of seasons, but it was interesting to see these folks do stuff where money was no object!

Bullard's star definitely rose high. Occasionally, I appreciate his aesthetic, but more often I find it contrived and just more pricey than tasteful. These homes are nicely done, but I don't much care for anything I see.

There is so much that I love about this house. That kitchen is very unique and different. It does need some warmth throughout, but for the most part I love it!!!!!

I too think it lacks warmth. It's just OK for me.

Kind of a let-down.  This house has the potential to be really cool, and I feel like it missed the mark.  Not liking those deco velvet chairs either.

@Oznell  All I can say is WOW... in a good way! I always liked Ellen Pompeo on ER.... and I think her home, while not my style is extremely beautiful. I especially like the dining room! Thank you for sharing this.
