Re: HELP! NEW WASHER--what features work for you?

I had a Cabrio at a previous house.  It worked just fine (read the instructions as to proper loading sequence or it will not work right) and I'm sure I used just regular wash, cold water, most times - don't even remember what else there was.  The one thing I did not like was that the lid locked after the fill started, so you couldn't add a stray to the load after it got going.  If a load became unbalanced you had to wait and let it reset.

I have about a 5 year old Maytag Bravos top loader, which I think is similar to the Cabrio (they might even be built by the same manufacturer & the brand names slapped on them) & mine has a 'start' button that also has 'pause' under the button & it stops the machine & unlocks the lid so you can add something or rebalance the load if it goes out of balance.  When you're done & close the lid & hit 'start' again, it locks the lid  again & continues with whatever it was doing when you paiused it.

LOVE silverware on the door!  I get so many more dishes to a load!

and this sounds exactly like my Kenmore.  I also use the pause if I want something to soak for awhile before washing.  However, I still hate the lock feature.  There are times when I have to stand and wait 5 minutes for it to come to a halt before I can lift the lid to rebalance an unbalanced load.  If it goes off balance the machine will keep refilling with water to try to balance itself (not an energy saver in my book!)
