This would almost work if they had a solid backsplash behind the stove. As is it's just too much.

No....not a fan of the color scheme anyway but this is too much pattern that, IMHO, isn't coordinating well together.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.

Get rid of the hidious backsplash and put in something with good taste and some darker greens and rust, peach tones.  

 

Then paint the island in a very dark green or a dark rust color.  

 

I don't particularly LIKE the lights, but the problem is that awful tile and the peculiar ugly insipid green the island is painted.  It needs to be dark.  Actually black and rust tones with that gold trim would be beautiful.

I like vintage kitchens but not this one....too many different patterns on the tile, cabinet, and table top and a bit too much clutter on the table.....
