I gave all of mine away. It was too heavy and I never used any of it. Replaced it with Corelle...something that I can actually handle w/o worry.

I love using my china, even if it has to be handwashed, like the handpainted patterns. The modern Lenox patterns, I put in the dishwasher, even the ones with a metal edge. They will last throughout my lifetime and, as many of you noted, subsequent generations don't want it anyway.

I have a set that belonged to my mom that i use all the time. I also have her silverware and fine glasses. My job requires some virtual work so I am on camera drinking out of her fine crystal. I was asked about it and I shared with my team that it was my moms and now many other team members use cool drinkware as well! I i still have her cake plates that a friend gave her many years ago. I have been using them this week. (not cake just whatever as the lady passed this week). I always told me her friend how much I love the dishes! They are stunning!!

@bargainsgirl I use my china and sterling silver everyday. I put all of it in dishwasher. Don't allow stainless pieces touch sterling silver in dishwasher basket. No one in my family wants my china so might was well use it and enjoy it. Also, DH likes shape of plates better than plates of everyday dishes. They are in cabinet but only use pasta bowls and cereal bowls occasionally.

I was in Goodwill the other day and saw a beautiful set there with many pueces. It was white with a delicate beige flower pattern. I thought how beautifully it could dress a table with many colors. What a shame that people don't want.

That is one thing I can't part with it brings me joy -- even though it's boxed. It was a gift from my dad every holiday and bday he'd buy me place settings of Lenox "Autumn" and "Holiday".

I have 12 place setting of both hoping my niece is still wanting it. The hard part is how to get to her ... I hate the thought of mailing it and getting broken in transit.

I always loved a beautifully set table, sadly for me, those days are gone ... and so are the loved ones who joined us during those days. I sure miss them☹️

I still use mine. When DH and I married it was important to me to have good china. My mom never had a matching set when I was growing up, but that didn't stop her from entertaining!

So I picked out a Lenox set I loved, and family members helped us build our set with gifts.

About 5 years later, after our set was complete and neatly displayed in our cabinet, we inherited the first of many sets we would inherit. Of course when I was a young newlywed I never even considered that would happen! The first was my one grandmother's Limoges set that came from France. I started using it at Christmas, and continued for many years. It's so beautiful.

We ended up with a total of 3 other family sets. I plan to keep them and use them as long as I can, and think about the family members who gave them to me.

Yes, today everyone uses paperplates. Whenever I have friends and family over I break out the china. I'm usually scolded "We can use paperplates!" But china is more environmentally friendly than plates you toss. Geez.

I also miss all the loved ones who would sit with us around the table.

You make an excellent point @beach-mom . When we were young we never considered that someday we would be inheriting china sets. Nor did we realize how time flies and that might be very soon.

I was married in the late '80s and already gals were saying don't register for china because you'll rarely use it. But none of us considered that we might be inheriting not one, but multiple sets.

That's wonderful that you use all that you inherited. Do you ever mix and match in table settings?

For years I was begging my mom for her china set, but she didn't want to part with it. Although she kept promising that she would give it to me. At one point--and this was 20 years ago--I recovered my dining room chairs with fabric that matched her china set. I kept showing it to her and saying "See! I need your china to go with it!" Still, no china. Finally a few years ago, when she was in her 90s, she gave it up. But now I no longer have as many people over for dinner as I used to because I too am getting old.
