@RedTop I leave my small appliances unplugged when not in use. Same for lamps. We have a large house. Areas like the guest bedroom get occasional use. I unplug lamps in that room.

All things plugged in will bleed some energy. Called "standby" electricity loss because it's so often associated with electronics in standby or idle mode, it's also known as "phantom" or "vampire" electricity (for obvious reasons). Even turned off, many appliances keep drawing power.

I decided to go with a Kohler. It will run both hvac systems.

@Snoopp @sarahpanda That's a function of how large a generator you choose to buy, not the brand. We have three hvac systems (old house, added on several times) and the Generac powers it all, for days on end. I'm sure most brands will do that as long as you buy a powerful enough unit.

I know that. My estimate on the generac was not for the same size generator. I'm just sayng I picked Kohler and upped the watts. I'm sure both are fine, just a matter of what your electrician wants to use and what you want.

My niece lives near Houston and has a whole house Generac. If they never use it again, they will, it has made ther lives and as many friends as they can fit in their house very happy the past 2 weeks.
