Garbage cans, question for dog owners

We have a puppy that is growing up quickly. My newest challenge the garbage can.{#emotions_dlg.huh}

Iam undecided between 2 SimpleHuman kitchen garbage cans, the difference is the opening mechanisms:

soft touch or step can

My concern- can/do dogs figure out the step on lever?
