I don't know whether the owner or a professional decorator designed this room, but I don't find it masculine.
My mind sees a playing record around the mirror. (When I was a kid my mom used to bake old records so they'd crinkle like this, and then she'd paint them.) The record shape is mirrored in the black circular object on the mantel. But, maybe the frame is a tutu shape. The picture on the mantel might be the owner or a family member. I can't tell what the sketch is in the small frame. These items make me think that maybe the owner is or was a performer of either song or dance.
The animal figure on the books is not a "demonic" animal. It could be a gazelle or another type of antelope. Gazelles & antelopes are graceful in their running, so maybe it supports the dancer theory.
The white vase with the single flower is also graceful and ties in well with the striking magenta chairs. The white background is a great contrast color to emphasize the black and magenta.
My guesses about the owner or professional decorator are purely conjecture, and other comments come from my individual perception. The vignette is interesting.

Wow! Thanks. Animal identification isn't my strong point! ![]()
Still - looks demonic!

I feel like it belongs to a couple, not just a single person.
I believe it was decorated for them--and they went with it.
It probably is just an apartment they visit sometimes and don't live there.

A cold, well-to-do minimalist who for some reason wants that gorgeous fireplace (the only thing I like in the room) to fade into the wall and be overwhelmed by one of the ugliest mirrors I've ever seen.

Indulgant. If you ever Looked into that mirror you would be resplendantly coronaed with radiiating waves of gold. rather "Sun King"ish, Who puts statues on top of books they are reading? It seems very emotionally "Black and white" Either sharp corners or circles on display. Blank slate white with pops of" Look ladies I have a soft but passionate side" fucia pink. It's in Milan so they Must have means. I don't think the owner spends much time there but it's a nice place to alight when in town.

Whoa-- I knew there would be interesting replies, but these are GREAT and so much fun to read. Love the informed speculation, the rich imagination at work, and the detail!
I lean to a woman, probably, a sophisticate who is drawn to many eras and types of design-- therefore the eclecticism of the room. But everything she puts there is a considered choice.
I am not fond of the mirror. A different, 'non-undulating' form of modernism would be more to my taste, ha. But I think it was the right choice to have the juxtaposition of something modern over that exquisite classic mantel.
I love the black and white photograph, the gazelle, which suggests Art Deco, the casually stacked books, the graceful touch of nature, the punctuating color of the chairs, and of course, the general (but not random) mix of old and new. I agree with everyone who suggested that someone of rarefied sensibility put together and/or occupies this room.

I go with a male also. Picture of the woman being his divorced wife. The apartment seems small, cold and crowded to me. I don't know if those orchards are real as someone said, I've never seen orchids in a vase?? And that mirror, are you kidding me? Expensive taste so why on earth have a small tv like table for your book?
I'm lost and cannot save this room, sorry........LOL

A young, very well off man with exquisite taste!

Well, I love it. The owner is either a woman or a gay man.
Someone mentioned "old money" which I disagree with. This is more avant garde. Someone arty lives here.

@Oznell I love everything about this snippet...especially when books are used as decorative. The person who decorated is probably a male, 40ish, who loves fashion and is probably a doctor, Italian upper class, and is also an italian opera singer or race car driver. Maybe even a member of the clergy...bishop or cardnial.
