Re: Formal LR with Built Ins

I would tone down the blue and just put it on the fireplace wall w/off white on the other walls and ceiling, change the curtains and sofa.  Gee, otherwise, I like it.

Give me a can of white paint..or even paint stripper to remove that gaudy teal paint. The ceiling is an ugly color too.

I like the structure of the room and built-ins and lovely windows, but everything would have to go..furniture, drapes and that chandelier that clashes with the style of the wall sconces.

Someone ruined the beautiful wood and hid the fine details of the custom woodwork by painting everything teal.

I so agree, @Carmie .  Far from enhancing the room, the paint and color scheme deface it.

The blue is positively horrible, but I think it would lessen the blow if the woodwork were painted another color to break up that awful color.

I like the chandelier could be an interesting focal point for the room, but dont like the furniture, decor accents or anything else about the room.....

@lolakimono   I love this!  Only exceptions I would prefer more comfy looking, maybe velvet sofa and different window drapes.  This reminds me of London homes - I could move right in.

@lolakimono I love panelling around a fireplace, and I also love rich colors. BUT, this blue is too Nanny McPhee for me!

The dark color of the back wall would make the room look smaller and the light fixture is not a go in that room for me.

I like it for that house, but not for me.

Re: Formal LR with Built Ins

I think they were going for a "jewel box" look to complement the rarefied architecture.  Unfortunately, the glossy, lacquered blue paint effect on the walls, combined with the dramatically gilded ceiling, in this application, seem over the top.

A quieter, more "matte" but still striking color scheme would have achieved the effect they were looking for, I believe.

Hope to see more posts from you soon, @lolakimono
