@SeaMaiden Did you ever try to replace the coils? They pull out. My stove is 43 years old, I will not be happy when it decides to quit. Mine is a cream color that matches my cabinets.

If you've had it since 1980, I would say that's a blessing! Stoves have come so FAR in the past 40+ years! I would have some fun shopping for a new one!

This must be the year for this type of problem. My gas range oven is pretty much kaput. It was original to the house which was built in 1998. It actually started to fail a few years back, but I just kept pushing it because I did not want to be bothered.
I do have AHS insurance so I called them towards the end of September. They made the determination that the unit was too old for replacement parts and that they had to replace it.
They gave me three choices for replacement. I took the option where they sent me an online link and I could pick out what I wanted. Plenty of choices from Lowes with no out of pocket costs to me besides my $125.00 deductible. Only difficulty was that I had to find a unit that could fit into the space that is cut out for the gas range. Secondly, I did not want a unit that would fly me to the moon and back. They all do a million and one things nowadays.
I finally settled on a whirlpool that is stainless steel and black, that seems as if I could master all of it's features. The first delivery that whirlpool brought into my home, once they started to unpack it they realized that it was damaged. I had to reject the shipment, and wait for another unit to be shipped. The new oven will be delivered towards the end of this week. Then the installers have to come to my home and take out my old unit and install the new unit.
It's been an ordeal, but I am trying not to complain. I am only out of my deductible for a new gas range oven.

@yamma024 Yes, many times....it is the wiring underneath the top where the coils sit. We could have an electrician replace all the wiring....but it would cost probably 300 to 400 dollars....and would rather up grade to something newer at this point.

@SeaMaiden - do you have a Best Buy near you? I have bought appliances there and it was a good experience. I bought my refrigerator there and my washer and dryer. Friends in my area had suggested Best Buy to me.

@gidgetgh Thankyou! We are looking for a specific model and only one is made now with a "drop in style"coil stove...Home Depot Carry's this one. If this does not workout We will look to Best Buy or such next. Drop in style stoves are not common anymore as most all stoves are slide in....we would rather go drop in so as not to have to do any cutting in cabinets to install a slide in.

UPDATE
We ordered the stove at HomeDepot yesterday.... it will be delivered next Monday. We did get the black cook top not the coil burners as the only drop in stove made now on the market is by GE and, one and only drop in made, comes only with the black cook top. I will purchase a protection cover for the cook top off of Amazon as one poster mentioned, to keep it covered when not in use...
I found a local neighborhood handyman that is licensed Bonded and Insured to install the new stove and haul away the old stove and packing materials for a total amount of $370 which is a pretty good price as one appliance store wanted over $600 to install and haul away and it would not be until after January!
This is our first new appliance since replacing the original refrigerator going on 20 years ago... that will be the next appliance we will replace BEFORE IT STOPS WORKING..... Probably next year February or so...
I will update on how installation goes next week for anyone interested... probably most of you are BORED TO DEATH WITH THIS SUBJECT lol
Thanks for puting up with me and all the great suggestions!!!!!
