Forced to purchase a new stovešŸ™

Our stove came with the house (year 1980).  We never use the oven...only the cook top, so for the past 35 years it worked fine....but we were down to only one top electric coil burner that worked and three not working...and yesterday the last working burner died....the wiring is just old and burnt out.   So I am using an electric cook plate for now with one burner.... an inconvenience.

now we  are forced to buy a new stove. I hate buying new appliances...always such a big inconvenience .....  šŸ˜© uggggg. Dreading this...

I am someone who is not concerned about having the newest and the best...or looks...hate renovating and updating. I repair everything and keep everthing up to date for the bones of the house....but appliances....and such could care less...

@SeaMaiden I hear you. I hate renovations too. I've done some recent ones pre-and post-covid. Happy I did them, happy their done!

But now my floors and kitchen need updating next, and I'm not only not in the mood to shop, but the pricing, (I got pricing on flooring right before Covid hit and was ready to go forward with it...sadly didn't happen), is 3 times more and deliveries still a year out.

So, best to get shopping, you may luck out somewhere, but from what I'm hearing, depending what it is and where you happen to shop for it...deliveries are still way out there. Shop around, hopefully, because you aren't hung up on one look or brand, you'll find something in stock!! Good luck!!

I think you got a lot of use with your inherited stove.  Im not an appliance snob either.  Good luck with your stove search.

We are having our floors redone soon. Replacing old worn wood stairs with new wood and 3 rooms replacing the old tired wood. We had no problem with product delivery. I think business is slow because these companies are ready to start now. We also replaced all of our appliances earlier this year and no wait for anything.

If you're going to replace it with another electric range with a ceramic cooktop, get a black cooktop, even if it doesn't match anything else in your kitchen. I wish I'd done this when we replaced our coil electric cooktop. The lighter ones are extremely difficult to keep clean. Good luck!

@Meowingkitty Encouraging, though I don't know where you are. I'm in CT, everything is high here. And depending what it is...my neighbor just cancelled a window order she had in since March 2022...it first came in damaged in July, and replacement still hadn't come now. She's going to start over in spring with a different mfr.

Haven't shopped again recently...don't know what I'll find...but hoping it's better than I expect. I mostly want fairer pricing, don't care as much about deliveries...especially now since I don't even want the disruption until after the holidays.

@SeaMaiden

If you go with a cooktop stove, be forewarned that you may need to replace your pots !

If the bottom of a pot / pan doesn't make complete contact with the stovetop, you will see the red light of the cooktop turn up and go down constantly: uneven cooking or boiling of water !

Even if the pot is a copper bottom good one, the usage over time can warp the bottom....you may not be able to see this with the naked eye, trust me.  I had to relegate my 20-qt Revere Ware pot to the vacation house with gas burners !

Does it matter ? Ask DH who does a lot of cooking: just waiting for water to,boil and stay boiling used to drive him crazy !

Re: Forced to purchase a new stovešŸ™

@SeaMaiden I hope you don't get knocked out with sticker shock. We always go for the basics too. I'm a full contact, things cook over, pots and pans get banged around kind of cook. So, none of those fancy stoves for me.

BTW, have you looked at your neighbors trash? One year our stove conked out during the holidays, and I didn't know what I was going to do. Then I saw our neighbor hauling their old (really ugly) stove out to the curb. They were upgrading to a fancy model. I called them, and they said it worked. We procured it, and it lasted for 10 more years!

Good luck!

Thought the glass cooktops only came in black. What is the lighter color?  Thanks for the info.
