For us who are always "purging" or "decluttering" we are NOT alone😉

I came home from mass & errands my husband says "come here I think you'll be interested in this".

He was watching CBS Sunday Morning the segment was about Americans excess and how packed our homes are!!!  even I was "shocked" at some of the basements, closets, kitchens & more.   And of course, the $$$ americans spend of storage units to "store" their excess.

So I said "see everyone but YOU has the same problem!" (in jest although he has 8 pairs of golf shoes & a garage full of golf equipment)

Then, I proceeded to carry in my "great finds" today at WM in the clearance section & dollar store😊😊😊

Somehow even when we see ourselves in a report like that, we still have trouble breaking the cycle! LOL

I'm going to look up that piece and hope I can access it online. I'd like to see it!

I'm definitely not a hoarder, never was and never will be. I run a clean, uncluttered, tight ship here and loving it. Woman Happy

Even though I'm a fanatic about going thru getting rid of stuff (junk) all the time, it does seem there is a lot in here that is not really necessary. Honestly, I can't seem to get a grip on it. I know my home is much less cluttered than mostand when I open a closet or drawer I am proud there is some empty space. However, each time I do a purge I always find a lot to get rid of. Obviously, I am still buying way too much despite that I feel I'm not buying at all.

I rarely, if ever, find myself thinking about decluttering. I do not have a basement and there is nothing of mine in the attic. My closets are neat and clean and my shelves are organized.....yet, I love to buy for our home.

I give a lot of my things away and I think that is my secret.

Speaking for myself......I could not imagine living in a space that is minimal in furniture or accessories. We all have our thing but that is not mine.

My biggest thing was that I got rid of 99 percent of the stuff from dead people's houses.  That was the biggest problem I had until a couple of years ago.

It doesn't bring them back, the only they are "closer" is that their stuff is jammed in every nook and cranny of  your house.  Who wants that?

Re: For us who are always "purging" or "decluttering" we are NOT alone😉

We had three households and a business under this one big roof and I have been decluttering and streamlining for years. I did a massive clear out as our son married and my mother passed and my business closed.  There still seems to be "stuff". I'm always organizing and clearing out things but never fast enough for me. I want to see empty space in drawers as well as in the rooms. My biggest challenges are the work room, garage and Christmas storage room. My revised approach is to do a section at a time or take 20-45 minutes to clear out a file cabinet, etc. It's just a matter of time before the place gets where I want it to be. I've decided not to get frustrated by the process taking longer than I think it should. It's a work in progress just like peeling wallpaper from the guest. We always seem to have multiplie DIY projects and things" going at the same time. Eventually----it will bo so nice---when it's DONE!

Re: For us who are always "purging" or "decluttering" we are NOT alone😉

My DH retired last year and we are "rightsizing" to North Carolina at the end of May, living in an apartment until our house is ready in the Fall.  I've been purging since November!  When my grandmother died I got some of her furniture and stuff and when my parents died I got some of their furniture and stuff, so there's a lot to go through.  I currently live in a beautiful Williamsburg colonial house with a full basement.  We've moving to a more casual style house without a basement.  We'll have a bonus room over the 2 car garage.  The new house is totally different than our colonial no formal living room and dining room, it will a great room, kitchen and dining area all in one very large space.  Needless to say I have a lot of furniture that won't fit or will just not go with the new style of house we're building, so I am donating most of my furniture to a local community center that helps those in need and I have another friend who has a son who just graduated college and needs some furniture.  I saved a lot of furniture and "stuff" in case my children would want/need it and they don't want it.  So I've been giving things away since November and I'm still not done.  I hope I've learned a lesson here somewhere!
