Re: For those of you who remember Boyds Bears and Gary Lowenthal

Boyds Bears for me is one of those lines that was fun while it lasted, but it's also one of the things I expect not to buy ever again. I've been giving away and/or yard saling my bear collection a little bit at a time as I downsize. I did love those bears for a while!

I met Gary many years ago at a signing at the Limited Edition on Long Island, it was way before cell phone cameras, I do have a figure signed by him.

I absolutely loved those Boyd's bears (and Dolls) when my youngest children were little and I bought a boat load for their rooms. My daughter still have some of the dolls out on the top of her furniture (because that is where I put them and she has left them there!) but most of the bears are in the closet. Its sad because they were a lot of money and they are adorable.

Re: For those of you who remember Boyds Bears and Gary Lowenthal

I only had a few figurines and no bears. I did not do serious collecting of his items. But I did watch and enjoy his shows. What I had I asked him to sign and he did. I also took one picture of myself with him (hubby took it actually). I am not a selfie kind of gal.

I was not aware of his health issues. I do know he looked happy and well. His signed book is a real treasure for me.

Thanks for sharing, bonnielu! I wish I could've been there! I enjoyed his shows on QVC, and I still enjoy my bears.

My mom used to always say, "You spend the first half of your life collecting stuff, and the second half of your life getting rid of it all." I've found that to be very true!

OP: Thank you for posting about this, I thought those shows were so much fun, & I'm glad to hear that Gary seems to have recuperated (hopefully) from his illness. That's great to know. The years have really flown by, since then!

Thanks for sharing, Bonnielu, it's good to hear he hasn't changed and I'm glad you had a good time after driving all that way! I only have plush bears (plus one duck in yellow rain hat and slicker!), but I still love them and don't foresee them leaving for a while.Smile
