Re: For my decluttering Friends.

We are in the middle of decluttering right now LOL I am sitting here surrounded by Christmas and other holiday stuff, and frankly I cannot believe how much Christmas Craaaaaaaap I have!!!!

I have found things that we had when we lived in Virginia..which is almost 18 years ago now, I am ashamed to say.

But we are doing a little each day. The local Goodwill et al, are going to be very happy.

We have been cleaning out our house too. We bought our cemetery lots 14 yrs. ago and this yr. with our tax refund we bought our tomestone. Gave my sewing machine and the wood cabinet to a relative. Bought a new chest of drawers for my sweaters that are now in those plastic cabinets that you get at any big box store. Having a new dishwasher installed next week. Having our handyman painting our front door and having all our flower beds fixed with new mulch. We cleaned out our house the last two years and I think we are ready to go. (if you get my drift). LOL wink, wink.

I love your post. . I was thinking this past winter if we had to move or got promoted to our home in the sky just how long it would take us or our busy kids to go through and sort all of our things. That really weighed on my mind. So I'm clearing out the house like crazy. It think to have your house cleaned out and your cemetery plots and tomestome purchased would be so much pressure lifted. That's next for us. We don't don't what to leave those burdens to our children.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

Thank you mominohio for your encouraging words.

My method works for me pretty well. It is a method that has evolved over time.

I find it I take something out of the cupboard for example that I know I don't want instead of putting it back I take it and lay it on that table by the garage. I don't leave it there for very long just till I go to the garage the next time. Once it gets to the garage it very seldom gets put back in the house.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

Mominohio, I was just at Longaberger Homestead last Monday! I hadn't been there for almost 4 years. I was tickled pink to run into that sale! I got some great things at fantastic prices. I haven't even unpacked them yet, as I'm doing the same as you are. Trying to decide what I'm going to get rid of first. One in, one out.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

Tomorrow hubby is golfing, if no rain, and once I walk my Labradoodle, I am going to clean the tops of my kitchen cabinets and clean the outsides of the cabinets. If time I will clean the downstairs shower, and small vanity. I also want to clean all the baseboard in great room and kitchen. Any clutter will be thrown away.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

I just wanted to remind folks that you can often find your local online garage sale pages on Facebook. Lately, I've sold a bakers rack, patio set, tray table, quilt, bed coverlet set, keurig, and exercise DVDs. I found that adult clothing doesn't generally sell, nor does smaller, inexpensive items, so I just donate that stuff and take the tax write off. Just another way to pick up a little extra cash, and to get others to haul off your stuff.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

We painted an outside building last weekend and I'm going to scrub the back deck this coming weekend--preparing it for new stain and paint on the railings. I love the way that just a simple coat of paint can make everything seem so clean and fresh.

One of our local churches has a huge yard sale every September and the proceeds go to the local food pantry. They started taking donations this week so I am going to start the decluttering again. I plan on taking items to the church. The only regret that I have had as far as getting rid of things, is my food processor. However, it was old and large and I didn't use it much. I also managed to see the TSV yesterday (Kitchenaide Food Processor) and I didn't buy it. Huge step for me.

I also plan on going to the funeral home to make our funeral arrangements and set up a payment schedule for it. Hope I don't need them for many years but I know from experience that I don't want my son to have to do this in the future. Going to decide on a tombstone also. Getting my ducks in a row so the worry is off my shoulders.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

I read this thread a week ago and was inspired to do a major clean out. Thanks for all the great posts and suggestions. My home is so much easier to clean and looks larger with fewer accessories displayed. Thanks again!

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

I am a child of a hoarder and while I am not a hoarder,I do have lots of stuff in a small home.I put stuff I think should go, BUT am not sure , in a clothes basket or something, move it into my car trunk or anywhere out of sight. If in a month or so I don't need it it goes to charity. Things I know for sure need to go immediately is taken away. I see my mom and how she lives with stuff everywhere and I am so sad and want to never get that way. And yes,I have tried all ways to Sunday to help her but she is resistant ...period.It has made a huge rift in our family. Anyway, I carry on.

Re: For my decluttering Friends.

I cleaned out make up and lotions, cleansers, (2 plastic drawers); consolidated 3 into 2. My next big project is under the stairs (large space that has speakers, 7 ft Christmas tree, Rockband video game piano, computer monitor, and more.) That will be a huge purge. A little scary.
