Our appliances haven't lasted long at all. Lots of service calls too.
We bought a new Whirlpool washer and dryer during the summer. The washer's computer/circuit board died within 2 months! Still under warranty, but already sorry I bought what used to be a decent brand.
Hope this was a fluke and won't happen again.
My previous LG washer lasted 4.5 years and the motor died.
These are not cheap appliances to be replaced so soon. They should be manufactured to last at least 15 years, imo. (Longer if I had anything to do with it). ![]()

My husband brought home our microwave when our son was 6 months old. He's 21 now. It is some no-name-brand that was on the shelf at BJs.

Sometimes the more electronics involved, the shorter the lifespan. It's a conspiracy to keep the manufacturers in business. j/k....I think.![]()

@Kachina624 I have a refrigerator in my garage that I have had for 25 years. Same manufactor as the 9 year old appliances. I don't think 9 years is a good life for an appliance considering their expense.

According to our favorite appliance repairman (and I believe him), it's a case of "they don't make them like they used to."
Our current dishwasher needed repairs after 1-1/2 years, and our 2 year old hot water heater sprang a leak and had to be replaced.
The hot water heater was still under warranty (Rheem), so the company replaced it, but we had to pay for installing the replacement. ![]()
It's frustrating, because I always research appliances before buying.

Its funny you just said that and sad in another way .we just had our whirlpool dryer that's like 15years old fixed a couple weeks ago. We were decided weather to fix it or replace it and the repair man said. This still is a good dryer that's still in good condition. He said the new ones with all there electronics they put in them will only last for like 8 years so with that said we had him fix it.

My old dryer lasted 32 years, washer 25 years, now my fridge is 22, but an appliance salesman told me a few years ago, now days they are built to last avg of 8 years. My new dryer is now 11.

@Janey2 3 years!!!! YIKES. Was this a sales person at a big box store or an indepentent appliance store? There are differences between what is sold at each.
My microwave just died. The sticker in the door said manufactured in 2012. I got 10 years out of that microwave. Went back to the same store and bought the newer model of that same microwave. Hoping for another 10 years.

I have never had a microwave die on me...they last forever.
However, I have had to replace many dishwashers. Since we built this house, I have had three almond dishwashers and three black dishwashers. Now I have a black SS one.
I am on my fourth refrigerator, second clothes dryer and third clothes washer.
i have two deep freezers that are old and run just fine.....one is avocado green from the 70's that we bought second hand.
Home appliances are built to be disposable today.
I am still using my avacodo green blender and my 41 year old Kitchen mixer.
