such a great layout for a "forever" home.

@sunshine45  What is a "rancher?"  Is that a one-story house?  I am not familiar with the term, haven't heard it where I live.

yes, it is a home that is all on one level. we DO have a full basement also which adds a lot of space for entertaining and storage. i think some people also call them "ramblers." one of the reasons why i dont think they are made too much anymore is that it requires more land than say a two or three story home (which builds up rather than out.)

we have loved ours. it is an older home (mid 60s), all brick, garage, well made. it has been updated and does not look its age at all. there are several on our street.  it is easy to add onto if you want, from the sides or the back. i know as one ages some are so appreciative of not having to go up and down stairs all the time.

@sunshine45  Thanks!  In Oklahoma where I live we call them a "house."  LOL!!!  A 2-story is a 2-story and not the norm, certainly before the mid 80's at least, and not in the more rural areas.  Most are one story.

We also by and large don't have basements in any modern houses, because everything is slab construction.  It is because of the soil types and water tables.  It just isn't workable to have basements, so we have out buildings--often 12 x 12 and bigger in the back yard and big attics for extra storage.

But in our bigger cities and towns, there are more 2 story houses because property costs are higher.

We also have a ranch that sits on 4 acres, which sometimes resembles the wild kingdom!  It’s open and bright, has 3 full baths (one in the finished basement). I love my central vac and inground pool - not in that order. 😄  We have lived here 32 yrs. with no plans to ever move!

our very first home was a rancher also, but on a much smaller piece of land and a much smaller home. we had only a crawl space in that home instead of a slab or full basement.

in our home now we do have an attic for storage, but it is so darn hot up there that we use a portion of our basement as storage. it is so naturally cool in the basement. i understand though that basements are not feasible for every area.

I love all of it, I designed it and picked everything myself.

That it's paid for.  Paid cash when I bought it 12 years ago.

Re: Favorite feature of your current home

When we were planning to move last Spring it was to be closer to the dialysis center and our children.  One son said I needed to downsize to a larger kitchen. . .We lost the small town bungalow on Main Street that was home for over 35 years. . . But I did find a lovely home with a large living room, large (eat in) kitchen, and generous sized master bedroom all on the ground floor.  We have a small basement (necessary for Kansas tornado safety), attached 2 car garage and a large enclosed patio.  We're now 10 minutes from the dialysis center and 5 houses down from our daughter/favorite nurse.  I "shopped" for a couple of months and made several (unaccepted) offers, but when I found this house I knew it was the one for us/certainly worth the search!!!

@Fiero Woman

How wonderful to inherit your mom's home & enjoy the gift of living there!

I near Clearwater beach (and several others) in a beautiful golf course community...kinda breaks my heart but neither boys want it.  No desire to ever relocate to FL.  My niece & her husband want it -- so at least the boys have a "buyer".

Im kinda young so they may have a bit of a wait,😉
