Faux Ivy Fence M44069 Question

This item was shown today on Saturday morning Q -- a faux ivy expandable fence.  Looks great to me, but has anyone had this outdoors for some time?  Is it made sturdy enough so that heavy winds do not blow the leaves off?  TIA

One poster on here said she bought one at a local store - took it back cuz it looked so cheap.  You might want to do the same - go to a local garden store.

Re: Faux Ivy Fence M44069 Question

I certainly don't mean to insult anyone's taste, but I have seen it presented a couple of times, and my first thought was, wow, I have a place I could use that.

Then when I looked closer, I thought it was really cheap looking. I also know from having a couple of Bethlehem lIghts hanging flower baskets, that they get dirty over time, and don't look good several years down the road. Even with hosing down and some cleaning, they still look faded and much less 'real'  than when they were new.

I opted not to purchase, after pondering that for a few minutes.

Re: Faux Ivy Fence M44069 Question

Ivy is easy to grow, why not get a real fence and train ivy on it.  Yes, it can be invasive but not if you pay attention and trim when it starts to overrun its boundaries.  Personally, I don't care for ivy but my distaste takes second place to my distaste for plastic plants.

Re: Faux Ivy Fence M44069 Question

I ordered this about a month ago and put it outside already. It's made very well. It looks just like the one I saw in the Improvements catalogue but not at the price. The ivy is fashened just as well as the wood trellis. All the time I was stretching this up 7' and trying to clamp the vine on it I didn't have any leaves falling off. We've had snow and rain with high winds and it still looks like new.  I'm very pleased with it.

Re: Faux Ivy Fence M44069 Question

I bought three of the expandable boxwood hedge/fence from Barbara King.  Like the ivy fence, it's also made with the willow branches but has the artificial boxwood leaves.  I love the way it looks!  I would have gone back and ordered more but they are sold out.  Yes, it's artificial but the boxwood leaves are delicate and for where its being used outdoors, it looks fine.  I heard that the leaves are made not to fade on both the ivy and boxwood fences.   Personally, I don't think it looks cheap at all and I have picky taste.  I think I will purchase the ivy fence if it's still available.

Re: Faux Ivy Fence M44069 Question

The reviews on-line were overwhelmingly positive, so I went ahead and ordered one.  I just need it to camouflage an eyesore, but didn't want to throw out money if high winds would leave me with just the naked gate, over time. BTW, I do not have a green thumb nor the time to maintain greenery. :-)  I re-watched the video too and they did mention how it held up in 60 mph winds with no problem.

Thanks again everyone.

Good to know the leaves are securely fastened on this item for those who are interested in it.  I wish the same could be said for the faux Bethlehem outdoor plants.  Like someone upthread mentioned, the leaves on those do not stay in place.  They fall off on windy days and when you hose them off to clean them.  Never again.

No green thumb here either- these expandable fences look great for the base of my raised deck!! I'd need (5) though- so I'm really REALLY thinking it over carefully...
