FRENCH COUNTRY STYLE KITCHEN AND COTTAGE

[ Edited ]

Jennifer at "Town and Country Living" showed this cozy, "un-fitted" kitchen, and said it reminded her of the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun".   I never saw that-- does it remind you of it?

I love the eclectic nature of it, and think of the rustic Belgian style when I look at it, with its soft blue gray cabinet and mustard work table, and unforced charm.

As usual, the kitchen lured me in, and I stayed to view the rest!   The relaxed feeling continues throughout the cottage.   Those pots are great.

Love the green sideboard in dining area:

And in the living room, this cabinet with its aqua, yellow and white contents, so pretty.

I must say a firm NO, however, to these bulbous "garlic" baskets!   And although a bird lover, 'no' to these carved flying birds.  The only sort of jarring notes for me.

However, a thumbs up to these tall, vessel-like baskets on the right in the dining area.  Great sculptural shape and texture.

Their love of cool, watery aqua continues in bathroom.

Sweet cottage vignette.

Outdoor dining right outside the blue door.

All the windows and light streaming in, combined with the reclaimed woods and "organic" elements, give me a sort of faraway, warm-weather 'fantasy' feeling with this cottage.

I have never seen the movie either but I do love the look of this cottage.  Very cozy and warm........ITA regarding the garlic baskets and flying birds, (LOL) they would be a no.  The only thing I really don't like and never have is the dreaded curtains instead of lower cabinet doors in the kitchen.   For some reason my eyes stop right there.  No offense to anyone who has this in their home, it's just something I really don't like.

@Oznell

I like some of the kitchen elements---the blue cabinet and mustard colored table....I do NOT like that open shelf with all the "stuff" for everyone one to see...it looks messy to me.....

Not a fan of white sofas and chairs and glass coffee tables.....too much furniture in the living room area....

I really like a cottage/bungalow and this one is very appealing to me.

I would have to immediately remove the curtains on the lower cabinets. Fabric right up against my oven would be something I could not live with....plus I really dislike the look.

Re: FRENCH COUNTRY STYLE KITCHEN AND COTTAGE

The kitchen brings bad memories for me.  Put in a peeling linoleum or wood floor, put a bright Maxwell House-Blue paint on the tall cabinet and you've got the kitchen of people still living in depression-era poverty in the rural areas of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas in the 1950's and 1960's.

They may not have running water in the old kitchen sink either.

@Oznell I like some elements but all of the hanging light fixtures would have to go. I just can't stand that style. Not a fan of the kitchen, actually but other bits and pieces I do like.

@LindaSaland @DREAMON ,   I'm a little bit in your camp regarding curtains over shelves.

In a certain, very specific context, like a European country kitchen or small cottage, I'll go with the "atmospheric" look, esp. if the fabric is appealing.  But this fabric they used here is inexplicably boring, ha.

it's so lovely...

kitchen.......

is that a cutting board on the floor between grey cabinet and sink cabinet....eweeee?

the grey cabinet in the kitchen is so divine.....the back wall of it is so perfect.

the window blinds over the sink seem out of sinc with the kitchen.   they chose not to show microwave or coffee maker to conform to period but chose these blinds?

wow @ that huge enameled pot on the top of the open shelves.

living room.......

coffee table is a no.

where is the lighting?  the hanging is not going to be enough. oil lamps or such.

wow@ that huge patinated wash tub on top of the cabinet

the pitcher collection in the cabinet makes me smile.....love pitchers

i can see a corner of the fireplace, which is opposite the double doors.  i want to more of it.

what is on the stairs?  carpet?

~~today may be my last.....i choose JOY!~~

@TheMemphisVette,  I love a detailed exegesis of an interior!  I can answer one of your questions--  the runner on the stairs is a very textured, nubbly kind of sisal or jute thing.  If you use your enlarge button, you can see how chunky it is...

Re: FRENCH COUNTRY STYLE KITCHEN AND COTTAGE

Oh, and also very good point about the lighting, @TheMemphisVette .   Having some table or floor lamps 'layered in' would be an absolute necessity.  Could see some rustic, vintage, wrought iron table lamps working well in there...
