Thought this was fun, because it's a bit different.  The house is on a sleepy bayou, near Destin, in northwest Florida, but doesn't have the cliche, "bright" Florida look that we often see online.  The house, located between a state forest and the bayou, seems to complement the natural beauty outside--

Love the screened porch with balcony above:

Even the side porch is pretty--

The owner said her family just lives on this porch below, and in the summer too !   Those ceiling fans must get a workout.  I absolutely love the easy feeling-- comfortable seating, rustic green-painted beams and supports:

They have a "cutting sink" to deal with the profusion of flowers--

This dining room immediately took my fancy-- the rustic, X-style table, combined with refined elements like the lacy mirror, lanterns and the antique oyster plates on wall.  It exudes that elusive quality, "individuality".

Their laid-back sitting area is a little more "filled" than I prefer, but I can see how it works for this family--

Speaking of family, how lucky are the kids who live here-- they have a life-size playhouse of their own, that complements the grown-up house:

The beautiful four poster below was hand made by an Alabama craftsman.  This is another, old-fashioned room that reminds me of "old Florida".   The simple style makes me think of the charming house that Mary Steenburgen lived in, in the biographical movie about Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, "Cross Creek".

I wish they had shown more of this bedroom, which looks like one of the children's rooms.  Love the bunny lamp.

They take every advantage of their waterside location, where blue herons and all kinds of wildlife abound --

I'm not familiar with Santa Rosa Beach, but it seems like a dreamy place, and these homeowners found a way to blend indoors and outdoors harmoniously.

  1. A very tastefully decorated and designed livable home.  I can understand the use of the screened room.  I bet the place is mosquito heaven and it gets a lot more use than the lovely outside sitting area which simply isn't practical in Florida.

@Oznell   Love that property and the house certainly uses it to advantage.  I don't know of a neighborhood here in the tropical southeast of Florida where it might make sense.   Maybe Key West, but I've never wanted to do more than be a tourist there.

I'm somewhat familiar with Santa Rosa Beach as I see signs for it when I'm staying in Panama City Beach and going to Destin for shopping.

The house, itself is just the cutest thing....I love it.  Some of the interior colors and furniture are not necessarily for me but I could live with it if this were my home.  The only thing I'd definitely change is the buffalo check wallpaper along with the print on the window treatments in that same bedroom.

I like the house, but NO to the location; I prefer mountains.

I love the dining room, I wish there was a bouquet of the beautiful fresh flowers (which seem to be lacking in all but the sitting room).

The location is lovely and the grounds lush.

The porch and kitchen are so pretty. I like the first bedroom; I also love the lamp and chest in the second bedroom but not the curtains. I would have to see the rest of the room to comment on the plaid wallpaper.

What a perfect sunset.

Blue herons are beautiful!

@Oznell thank you for these lovely images.

I can't get past how many snakes, spiders, mosquitos and other vermints are lurking in the yard.  I'd be afraid to go out.

But I've been to Santa Rosa beach and it's lovely.

I could move right in and be very happy.  Any negatives could be overcome I'm sure.

This is such a cute house! Of course I would change up some of the furnishings, but for the most part I really like it.....I would imagine a screened in porch is a "must" in Florida!!! I would love a screened in porch anywhere...They are so nice and get so much use!
