FALL VIGNETTES WITH A VINTAGE TWIST

A few of you might remember Krysta Meeker, who loves antiques and lives in a historic old house in Kansas-- I showed her house decorated for Christmas:

She has just posted a video of working on her fall looks.

Here she's starting work on her mantel.  She wanted an "early fall" feeling, so started with a green vine...

...and here's her end result.  The green is still there, but overlaid with autumnal leaves.  I do that too, and I still have green eucalyptus mixed in with burgundy eucalyptus on my console.

Don't you love her limelight hydrangea, on the left?

She cut it from her garden, put it in that vase with water at first-- when the water evavporates, she leaves the hydrangea to dry to beautiful tawny colors.  It lasts for years.

The black moth in her garden is very atmospheric!

Here's the end result of a cabinet shelf she did.  The antique clock, books, and old record album in the back are not fall-specific, but work perfectly--

Another shelf-- love the bristles, the silhouette and berries, the little marble basin...

...which she filled with some of her hydrangeas, this time in the dried stage--

Another place where she used "sympathetic" vintage year-round accessories to complement the fall leaves--

A wreath of pears is hung on a mirror--

Love the old filigree perfume bottle she put with it, and the brass candlesticks with autumnal candles and slim brown ribbons tied on.

Not a fall decoration, but a cherished keepsake she shared--  a painting of her little dog Salem who sadly succumbed to his illnesses recently.  She will no doubt display forever--

She incorporated the old Victrola she rehabbed, into her decorating.  Wonder if they have the record, "Monster Mash"?

Cute trick or treat pillow on a cozy bed--

Her Victorian sensibility influences her fall decorating, which is, overall, rather subdued and moody.

Oh, very beautiful fall effects.

Love seeing how simply she did the layering of floral garlands on the mantlepiece, and the simplicity of the dried hydrangeas.

Lots of other lovely aged things that work with each other in a fall vignette.

Very inspirational decorating.

I really enjoy looking at these photos, thank you Oznell for finding and posting this.

Thank you @Oznell for the pictures and descriptions which I always enjoy seeing whether I like them or would live in them or not notSmiley Happy I used to look through real estate magazines selling houses just because I loved looking at houses inside and out.

What a sweet beautiful dog. We will always miss them!

I like the natural decorations she has though it all looks kind of dark. Maybe it has more light in person. I'd start to feel kind of gloomy.

Her garden looks beautiful and I like that touch of Halloween with the little pillow on the bed.

Everything does look so interesting. I think I would really enjoy just seeing something I hadn't noticed before, each time I came.

My mother had a wonderful vibrant blue hydrangea bush and she would dry them too. She would hang them upside down with a string to dry and keep the color. When dried they turned a magenta, a lavender and some other colors and she would put them in an arrangement and yes they lasted for years.

@SactoSue ,  I have a similar reaction-- the layering, the simplicity, the individuality shown in the selection of older pieces to bring up a pensive, 'autumnal mood'.  She has a sophisticated eye.

@Citrine1 ,  I know, just her antiques alone-- they work so well in that charming house...

@on the bay ,  oh, the blue that turns magenta, that is such a stunning transformation.  I've always wondered, if there's a fool-proof way to determine what color they'll turn when dried.

I think that's a different phenomenon than the different colors they turn while still growing in the ground?  Some seem to do that too, which is ravishing.

I love antiques also and appreciate all the photos of beauty and elegance.  I love the mantle decor with the garland of leaves.  Seasonal decorating is fun,, enjoyable and there are so many ways of making a home look lovely.  Using old books has always been one of my favorite ways to display photos, figurines and whatever looks good to me!  It is what makes you smile and feel happy being surrounded by your inspirations.

Not sure what the critter on top of the mirror is supposed to be (and after looking at the actual video, think it might be a design rather than a critter), but it reminds me of a galago (small, nocturnal primate).
