I'm not a fan of cordless vacuums---they don't seem to have the punch a corded one does---I have a Shark Rotator corded vacuum that does great on my carpets--I don't know about Dyson--way too much $$ for me. Think I got mine at Best Buy, about 10 years ago now, for under $200. a cordless would be good for hard surfaces tho--

Re: Dyson or Shark

I have both.  My 10 year old Dyson has problems picking up.  Taking it to be repaired will cost me $100.00 so I decided to pick up this no name LEVOIT Cordless Stick Vacuum for $159.99 on Amazon.

I've been using it for six months and so far it's been doing a great job.

I keep my Shark upstairs and it's still working great after three years.

I love using the stick cordless vacuums on hard surfaces.  It's great for picking up crumbs in the kitchen.

Shark without a doubt. Dyson is not the end all be all they claim! I can always count on my Shark to do a good job.

I have bought Shark Lift-Away uprights for a long time. I believe the Lift-Away models are all corded. They just keep getting better with each new model. I would buy another when the time comes.

I could never bring myself to pay Dyson prices.

I've had Shark corded vacs for years - I love them.

But I recently bought a Shark Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum and I absolutely love it.  The suction is very powerful.   The battery charge is long enough for me to quickly vacuum my  house.  It's so handy.  I paid $149.99 on Amazon but it's currently showing - for me - for $179.

We have both. We use a plug in Dyson for our main level. Definitely picks up dog hair and dirt better than the Shark. We got tired of lugging the heavy Dyson downstairs, and it's not easy to vacuum steps with it. We bought a cordless Shark for vacuuming the stairs down to the basement and for using on the carpet down there. The Shark does a good job, but it's not as good as the Dyson. That's our experience.

Another fan of Shark here, but not of cordless.

I prefer a corded vacuum.  I have a couple of the Shark corded stick vacs and love them.  They get a workout too.

I had a Dyson, but I didn't really care for it and it didn't last long before it needed repair.  I wouldn't buy another for what they cost.

@joann1218. Just keep in mind that Shark vacuums cannot be repaired and are built to be replaced, whereas Dysons can be repaired.

@joann1218   Shark for sure.  They give you a 5 year warranty without extra money.  They are the #1 Vac for awhile.  Their CS is also excellent.
