Dyson Digital Slim - mount and charging question

For those of you who have this, do you have to use the mount to charge the vacuum? I don't have a closet (with an outlet anyway) or discrete place to store it mounted so I'm wondering if I can charge it without the mount and just sit it somewhere discrete and keep the attachments in a drawer or cabinet.

Also I thought I read somewhere that after it's fully charged, you're not supposed to keep the unit plugged in??? Is that true? Or do you just keep it on the charger indefinitely while it's not in use?
