Re: Dyson DC65 Being Returned

I have bought 4 Dyson vacuums (3 from QVC). My late husband bought the first one (Animal, purple) at least 11 years ago. I couldn't believe it when he came home with the thing! I used to tell him, "When you start vacuuming, that's when you can pick the vacuum". He always wanted to get rid of the canister vacuum.

Well, I'd started having back problems. He'd been recently nominated to vacuum. Remember the saying, "Happy wife. Happy life".

Well, he died 10 years ago. So now I've purchased vacuums for myself and each of my daughters. I'd only bought one for two of the daughters. The middle didn't want one.

Then one days she asked me if I'd get her the Dyson canister ball. I did and she loves it. She now lives in Florida and has a housekeeper. She said she thinks the housekeeper would quit if she got rid of the Dyson!

I will never own another vacuum. I have owned Sharks and given them away. They're OK, they work but not as good as the Dyson.

I admit I don't take very good care of them. I've used them to clean out broken glass from my dishwasher. It also vacuumed up the small amount of water that's in the bottom of it. It works great.

The hose has gotten gunked up (just didn't look clean). I took it to the Dyson repair shop. The lovely young man there gave me a new hose (put it in and all), the told me how to wash out the hose.

My oldest daughter had some kind of issue with her Dyson. I don't know what it was but she took it in for repair. While she talked to someone there it was taken in the back and came out fixed.

I think they really back up their products. That's all I can say. In this age where everything is 'throw away' (in my case I just 'give away') that says a lot.

Re: Dyson DC65 Being Returned

Before I purchased my Dyson 6 years ago, I literally bought a new vacuum every year because they constantly broke. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Dyson. Best vacuum I ever bought!

Re: Dyson DC65 Being Returned

I have a Dyson Animal--at least 6 years old--love it for power. We have several cats, and vacuum enough fur weekly to make two new cats! It is very heavy, and I have three levels in my house, so I'm thinking about a Shark for upstairs. Dyson does need to re-design the way their accessories hook up--they are complicated to put together. I prefer using the hose, wand and hardwood cleaner. I have replaced the switch and Hepa filter myself--instruction videos are everywhere.

Well lbwshop, no longer is Dyson saying they have the most power as it was proven by independent testings that Shark POWERED lift away is more powerful. In addition Shark was very successful in their lawsuit against Dyson saying they had the most powerful...

I had the upright Dyson Animal and almost to the DAY the warranty expired, the "clutch" went out on it. Did not buy it from the Q.... tried to reason with the company because this should not have happened to a $600 machine!! They would be happy to fix it if I shipped it to them (at my expense~!)....

So I took it to a local repair that I'd been happy with for years (where we used to live). They repaired the clutch for $170 and it broke again a year or so later! BTW, when I went into this repair shop the owner showed me how many Dysons he had waiting for repair... there had to be 50 standing in a line! I'm not kidding, he told me it was one of the worst vacuums on the market in his opinion, which surprised me. This guy repaired all top of the line, everything, Kirby, Miele, even repaired an old Electrolux (from the 50's) which is still vacuuming ....

Never again will I buy a Dyson anything....

After years of picking my Dyson Animal up by the plastic container handle (a definite no-no) the latch broke and I took it in for repair. Had to buy a new container.

I had the same experience; my repairman said the same. He said the Dyson's are made cheaply with plastic parts and if they break you have to replace the entire part. He also said he had quite a few in the shop to repair.

My next purchase will be the Shark. I think the Dyson is a hugely expensive machine.

Will not buy again.

Love my 20 year old Oreck - still works as well as the day I got it.

I recently got a Dyson after using Oreck's for many years.

The Dyson picked up SO MUCH stuff my Oreck obviously wasn't. I cannot believe how well the Dyson works. I do have pets, so it is unbelievable.

The disadvantage of the Dyson (especially compared to Oreck) is the weight. The Dyson is HEAVY and pulls at my back. The Oreck is light and easy to push around.

After I got the Dyson, I noticed my carpet was so much brighter looking.

The Oreck bags are pretty expensive and the Dyson canister is easy to empty. I still have the Oreck, but haven't used it once since getting the Dyson.

Daysdee, I am a bit confused here as the person likes her Oreck but USES the Dyson because it gives cleaner carpets.

Our local vacuum repair shop has a big sign - Dyson sold here - we were taking to the owner. He was saying that he had to do something. His store is being over run with Dyson vacuums. People bring them in to be repaired and then never pick them up.
