Dyson AM05 Hot & Cold heater & Fan

Back in November 2014 I purchased this Dyson heater/fan when it was a TSV ... it works great and I have been toasty warm since I received it ... I even gave it GREAT review which I now cannot go into to update ... the problem is today I got my electric bill and it went from $79.15 (last months bill) to $184.39 (this months bill) ... an increase of $105.24 .... I nearly had a heart attack! The Dyson rep never mentioned that this gadget would drastically increase the electric bill ... Mr. Dyson needs to go back to the drawing board with this one and see if he can come up with a more efficient product ..... needless to say I am sending it back to QVC for a refund ... thank goodness I have until Jan 31st to do so .... anyone thinking about buying this item keep in mind that your electric bill is going to increase drastically .

Wow, that is a HUGE difference in price! I hope you get some replies soon because I ordered it as well and gave it to hubby for Christmas. I love the fan but if it cuts into the budget that much I will have to reconsider it.

The sales tactic they used was how it would save money......false advertising!

Re: Dyson AM05 Hot & Cold heater & Fan

Hi luvboyds .... if you look the item up and read the reviews at least one person said their electric bill tripled ... When I received it in November I immediately started to use it ... I am always cold in the winter and this item kept me so warm at night .. I wrote a review and praised it as it is really a great heater/ fan but, what I did not know at that time was how much my electric bill would increase until I got my bill a few days ago .... I unplugged it immediately and I am going to return it next week ... thank goodness I saved the Dyson box that it came in but, I threw away the cardboard box that was used to mail the item to me ... I am trying to figure out how to mail it back without the cardboard box ... I guess I will get some brown wrapping paper and return it that way .... good luck to you ... Happy New Year!

Hi AnnaBella ..... I could be wrong but, I don't recall them saying that it would save on heating the house .. I just assumed that it would ( my bad) .... I own a Duraflame heater that I use occasionally and when they demo that heater they do state that it only cost $0.25 per hour ... I also plan on calling Dyson tomorrow to let them know about my electric bill .... Happy New Year

I'm surprised that people didn't think it was going to significantly up your electric bill. It takes a decent amount of power to run an electric heater.

The duraflames .25 cents an hour amounts to 180 dollars a month if you run it 24/7

Years ago a roommate left the gas lighter for the fireplace on for a couple days and our gas bill tripled.

We use space heaters. Our current bill is over $100 more than the previous one. I am hoping we have a mild winter.

You must also take into account where you live and the weather conditions compared to last years. For example I live in the South and I also bought one of these Dysons last month too and my utility bill was $100.00 less, and I attribute it to having a milder weather last month. Needless to say I am well pleased with ours.
