Re: Duvet Covers--good or not?

I like using a duvet. It's easy to put on and easy to take off for laundering. We have no issues with it bunching up.

The way I put it on is to gather it all down ad one end and put the comforter inside, making sure it's all the way into the corners and laying flat. Then it's simply sliding the duvet up, giving it a shake from the closed end and securing the buttons. I then turn it so the buttoned end is at the foot of the bed.

I was JUST cussin like a sailor an hour ago when I had to out that duvet cover back on over my down comforter!!! What a workout!

Are there any tips or tricks putting that thing back on??

Depends... do you have the clips?

I'm DEFINITELY going to BBB to pick up some...but once you attach the clips @ one end, that's when the battle begins. I'm standing on top of my bed trying to shake the material down to the ends where it buttons....it's a battle. Advice?

The easiest thing to do is turn the duvet cover inside out, attach the comforter (with the clips) to each of the 4 corners, then pull it back out - meaning right side out. Did that make sense at all? lol

Re: Duvet Covers--good or not?

My fur babies sleep on our bed, and I refuse to wash and dry a king-sized comforter every week. I have been using a duvet cover for years, and I have never had bunching or shifting problems.

A duvet is the down (or alternative) comforter - usually just plain white. You cover it with a duvet cover, which can be washed easily. In many parts of Europe they use just the duvet in it's cover - no top sheet. I have used one for several years and find the only difficult part is getting it into the cover!

I don't use clips so I can't really use the inside out method. What I do is lay the cover on the bed with the open end at the end of the bed. Then, I gather up the duvet and crawl inside the cover to get the top corners of the duvet into the top corners of the cover. I sort of smooth the rest of the duvet out as I move backwards out of the cover. (I do this when I'm alone in the house. I wouldn't want to end up on Youtube in some weird video...LOL.)

Re: Duvet Covers--good or not?

We have always had a comforter and a separate duvet. For like 20 years. However, we recently purchased a new bed and the old comforter doesn't fit. Need to upgrade.

Some pros--Cover is washable and any kind of stain or whatever can easily be cleaned without ruining your comforter. Protects the often pricey comforter underneath.

Some cons-I find them really hard to get on. Kind of annoying, really. But like I said, I did it for 20 years. Another con? The comforter sometimes bunches up more easily in one side of the duvet. But this could be related to the quality of the comforter underneath, too.

They're fine, but I stopped using them... Truthfully, I simply failed to see the point.

Re: Duvet Covers--good or not?

"What is a duvet?

Sometimes referred to as a comforter (especially in the United States), a duvet is a type of bedding that is a soft flat bag filled with down, feathers, wool, or a synthetic alternative. It is protected with a removable cover, the duvet cover. The duvet originated in Europe and was made from down feathers because of its usefulness as a thermal insulator. Adding a duvet to your bed makes the whole chore of making your bed a lot easier. It’s a single covering instead of a combination of sheets, blankets, quilts and other bed coverings.

Read more about duvets and comforters here.

What is a duvet cover?

Analogy: duvet is to duvet cover as pillow is to pillowcase. A duvet cover is a protective layer that slips over the duvet and has a closure. Because duvets and comforters can be expensive and difficult to clean, duvet covers are useful because they protect your comforter during use and are easily removed and easy to wash. With duvet covers, you can also quickly and easily change the look of your bed and room without having to completely redecorate." Resource: http://www.craneandcanopy.com/pages/101-duvet-vs-comforter
