Duraflame TSV question

For anyone that has one of these I have a question. Can you really see the flames all that well when it is lit? On TV, they are not that bright and don't stand out much but it may be due to the studio lights. Are the flames bright enough to see them really good? I would be buying mostly for the ambiance of having the look of the fire going.
