Has anyone ever used this? I can't imagine how it would know when to disperse.

I used to have one years ago. The rubber stopper opens up during the spin cycle. When the rinse water fills the machine, the softener is mixed in with the water.
It worked well. I no longer use fabric softener. It's a toxic oily mess. Most newer washers have a fabric softener built in.

I never used one...
Additionally, I haven't used any fabric softener product for over 20 years...not even the fabric softener sheets like Bounce.
With all the microfiber cloth and other new types of fabrics, it does nothing good for them and clogs the fibers.
The upside is saving $$$ by not purchasing those types of products. ![]()
