Does using a Dyson void your carpet warranty?

We still have an independent vacuum store near us. Lately he has been putting out the word, both in person and on radio commercials, that using a Dyson voids the warranty issued by carpet manufacturers. Is this true or is this just sour grapes from a guy that doesn't carry Dyson?
