Re: Do you use your fireplace if you have one?

We built a lined brick chimney in this house 40 years ago and have always had a wood burning stove in our basement for supplemental heat.

We've always burned seasoned hardwood, no pine, and for 12 years burned coal as well, so our fires were HOT and creosote has never been a problem.

We bought a new stove 5 years ago and when it was installed, the chimney was checked, and found to be clean, with no buildup whatsoever.

We have one we no longer use. Many years ago we had a fireplace fire. Have fake logs that light up. We haven't even done that lately.

Re: Do you use your fireplace if you have one?

We have always had at least one fireplace in each of our homes throughout our 38 yrs of marriage.  They were always wood burning until this last one, which is gas.  DH loved wood burning and we always burned around a cord per year.  He took some convincing g to switch to gas but he really enjoys it.

Re: Do you use your fireplace if you have one?

I have had gas log fireplaces and real wood burning fireplaces.  When we were house shopping last spring we didn't even look at ahouse unless it had a real wood burning FP.   There is nothing like the smell, sound and feel of a wood burning FP to me.  We have a fire several nights a week and love them.  Ours warms much of our house and I enjoy cleaning out the ashes.  Wouldn't be without one.

Our other must have was an attached 2 car garage even tho we only have one car.  I love that garage.

Re: Do you use your fireplace if you have one?

I live in an old house that has been remodeled several times over the years. There are too many fireplaces in this house (ugh) of which 2 are still wood burning (which rarely get used), 3 are gas (two get used) and the rest are for looks only. If I had my way ... there would only be two, but on this issue my husband cannot be moved at all. (The house came down thru his family). We do have a wood burning fireplace outside that gets used - mostly early spring/early fall, when air is still cool. We have easy access to wood and the wood has been cured for quite awhile.

None of the fireplaces are used as the main source of heating the house/room. Because fireplace have been a source of disagreement between my husband and I for years ... I'm actually hostile towards fireplaces. LOL.

Re: Do you use your fireplace if you have one?

We aren't really big on fireplace use.  We had wood burning ones in the living room and kitchen in the last house, and converted both to gas.

In this house we have three and none of them are wood burning.  We just never think to use them I guess.  But I can say we both got tired of the wood--having to keep it in a pile in the yard, bringing it in and getting rid of the ash.  A snake found home in the woodpile and I was done!

Re: Do you use your fireplace if you have one?

in our old house (a Victorian ) we had a wood burning fireplace. Used it all Winter. In our present home (a Colonial) the previous owners had a parlor stove.  We replaced it with a  glass front wood burning stove.  Nothing better then a real fire. The color changing flames, the crackle, the warm of the room. Perfection. You don't get that from gas fireplaces.  It is not hard to take care of at all.  These last frigid days here in Maine have not been bad at all thanks to the wood stove.  That along with a Hot Toddy!

We have a fireplace but have never used it. I stacked some logs inside and put fairy lights intertwined with the logs. They come on each night with a timer.
